Golden Days: Last chance to visit the BLOX building-site
September 2, 2017 @ 13:00 - 18:00
On Saturday September 2, we are opening BLOX – our new home and Realdania’s largescale development project in Copenhagen. This is the very last chance to see the building under construction before the grand opening in May 2018. This extraordinary opening of the BLOX building-site is part of Golden Days’ celebration of Copenhagen that marks the 850-year anniversary of Copenhagen, which will take place in the cultural neighbourhood.
From 12.00-18.00 there will be guided tours at the BLOX building-site every fith minute. In addition to the guided tours, three different talks/debates will take place in what will become BLOX’s restaurant.
Torben Klitgaard, director at BLOXHUB, will be your host when we look at water in the future Copenhagen: From the importance of water in urban spaces to climate adaptation and grilled jellyfish. We will explore questions such as “How do we live with the water as our neighbour, and how can we re-think this neighbourship in sustainable ways?”. Meet among others the food performer Augusta Sørensen, Founder & General Manager at Sanitov Studio Alexander Høst, climate expert at COWI Arne Bernt Hasling and ph.d. Morten Krogh Petersen from Gemeinschaft. Note: This talk will be held in Danish. Free. Limited spaces. Sign-up necessary here.
Talk by architect Adrianne Fisher from OMA. Adrianne will be talking about BLOX and the ideas behind the architecture. Note: This talk will be held in English. Free. Limited spaces. Sign-up necessary here.
Talk by architect Jan Gehl, partner and founder of Gehl Architects. Jan’s talk will focus on the question “Copenhagen – World’s most Liveable City – Truth or Fact?” Note: This talk will be held in Danish. Free. Limited spaces. Sign-up necessary here.
Guided tours at BLOX will take place from 12.00-18.00 every 5th minute. The meeting place is at Frederiksholms Kanal in front of the gate to the building-site. Practical shoes and good legs are required as there are many stairs on the tour. Last tour will be at 17.45.
There will be 3 talks at 13.00, 15.00 and 17.00. There is free access at all talks, which all last around an hour. Get your tickets here: http://goldendays.dk/program/ as there will be limited amount of spaces. The doors will open 30 minutes before start.
At Frederiksholms Kanal, BLOX will set up an outdoor café with free coffee and cookies, where you have the opportunity to meet Danish Architecture Centre, BLOXHUB, Kraks Fond Institute for Urban Economic Research, Realdania and Realdania By og Byg. From here, it is easy to get to many of the other activities that are part of the Copenhagen celebration.
In May 2018, Denmark will get a new world class building that will be a centre for architecture, design and innovation. BLOX is financed by Realdania, and Realdania By og Byg – a subsidiary to Realdania – is the developer and owner of BLOX. BLOX is designed by the internationally renowned Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and his practice OMA.
