SUMMARY:BLOXHUB Talks: IBASHO - Belonging as an Urban Design Principle
DESCRIPTION:What is Ibasho?\nIn Japanese\, ibasho describes both a physical place and an inner state – the feeling of being safe\, accepted\, and needed. \nAs an urban design principle\, it links architecture and psychology\, space and social life. It invites us to see belonging not as a by-product of design\, but as a condition for it. \nWhy now?\nCities are facing ageing populations\, social isolation\, and growing mental health challenges. Japanese practice offers a perspective where belonging is treated as foundational infrastructure. \nWhat can Nordic and European cities learn from this approach? \nWhat you will gain \nFor BLOXHUB members and partners\, this session offers an opportunity to: \n\n\nExplore new lenses on urban wellbeing and belonging \n\n\nEngage with Japanese and Nordic practitioners working with placemaking and human-centred transformation \n\n\nReflect on how belonging can function as urban infrastructure \n\n\nTranslate insights into Nordic and European practice through dialogue and collaboration \n\n\nJoin us\nParticipate onsite at BLOXHUB or online via livestream.\nSecure your spot here \nProgramme\n08:30-09:00 Breakfast and arrival – with Japanese culinary touches \n09:00 Welcome and setting the scene: Why Japan – and why now? / Jakob Norman-Hansen\, BLOXHUB \n09:10 Keynote (live online) Yuki Ikeguchi\, Executive Vice President\, Kengo Kuma & AssociatesOn Japanese placemaking and the cultural dimensions of space \n09:30 Keynote Helle Søholt\, Founder & Board Chair\, GehlHuman-centred urban transformation\, including lessons from Shibuya Station revitalisation \n09:50 Ibasho in practice: Belonging as urban infrastructure / Ann-Britt Elvin Andersen\, BLOXHUBIncluding insights from The Paradox of Proximity: Preventing Urban Loneliness \n10:05 Panel conversation and Q&A. SUMMARY:Book Launch! The Paradox of Proximity - Preventing Urban Loneliness
DESCRIPTION:We live closer than ever – yet loneliness is rising across the globe. \nWith the launch of the book The Paradox of Proximity: Preventing Urban Loneliness\, BLOXHUB and Cities for Better Health invite you for an afternoon dedicated to viewing loneliness through an urban development lens. Loneliness is often framed as an individual condition. But what if it is also shaped by how we design housing\, structure neighbourhoods\, activate public space and govern our cities? This is where emotional urbanism comes in: recognising that cities do not only organise movement\, density and infrastructure\,  they also shape how we feel\, connect and belong. \nIf loneliness is influenced by urban systems\, it is also something cities can actively address. \n\nAbout the book\nThe Paradox of Proximity: Preventing Urban Loneliness explores one of the dilemmas of contemporary city life: how can we live closer than ever – yet feel increasingly alone? Drawing on interviews with experts from cities including Seoul\, Tokyo\, Vancouver\, Toronto\, Copenhagen\, Turku and Paris\, the book reframes loneliness as a spatial and systemic challenge also shaped by the built environment. Rather than treating loneliness solely as an individual health issue\, the publication positions urban design as a proactive tool for building social infrastructure. \n\n\nProgramme\n\n15.00\nWelcome / Torben Klitgaard (CEO\, BLOXHUB) & Jo Jewell (Director\, Cities for Better Health)\n\n15.15\nIntroduction to the book The Paradox of Proximity: Preventing Urban Loneliness\nAnn-Britt Elvin Andersen\, Chief Communication Officer\, BLOXHUB\n\n15.30\nKeynote: Cities Don’t Create Loneliness – They Concentrate It\nPete Bombaci\, Founder\, The GenWell Project (Canada)\n\n15.45\nPanel discussion: From Proximity to Belonging – Designing Against Urban Loneliness\nPanel: Jack Renteria (Founder\, Generation Global)\, Jo Jewell (Cities for Better Health)\, Ann-Britt Elvin Andersen (CCO\, BLOXHUB)\, Maya Shpiro (Social Impact Lead\, Henning Larsen)\, Markus Kalmari (Director of Sport Department\, City of Turku)\nModerator: Jakob Norman-Hansen (Director\, Global Networks & Partnerships\, BLOXHUB) \n\n16.30\nNetworking + drinks\n\nRegister your coming here

SUMMARY:Hvordan samarbejder vi om at skabe fremtidens bynatur?
DESCRIPTION:I 2022 vedtog FN og de 196 medlemslande The Global Biodiversity Framework\, også kendt som Kunming-Montreal Aftalen. SUMMARY:New European Bauhaus – where are we heading?
DESCRIPTION:Five years ago\, President Ursula von der Leyen launched the New European Bauhaus (NEB). \nIt was created for Europe’s built environment to face the growing challenges of: \n\nResource overconsumption\nA shortage of affordable housing\nUnderuse and inefficiency in existing buildings\n\nSince then\, NEB has had a leading role in shaping numerous initiatives across Europe: \n✔️ The Affordable Housing Initiative is now defined as an NEB flagship\n✔️ The NEB Academy is building capacity for sustainable construction\n✔️ Dozens of European and local NEB projects have received funding from 2020 to 2025\n✔️ The NEB Facility is a new multi‑annual funding tool to support the NEB for 2025–2027. \nThrough this thousands of urban transformations have been designed and implemented at local level\, and – zooming out – the first big waves of building a European wide movement has taking place since 2020. \nAs the challenges remain\, it’s time to ask ourselves: \n\n\n\n\n\nHow do we make sure that NEB remains relevant and a movement to bring forward the much needed urban transformation?\nHow can we expand a European initiative\, sharing and scaling local NEB empowered experimentation and learning?\nWhere does the greatest potential lie\, and how can we integrate NEB into future architectural practice as well as urban planning and development?\n\n\n\n\n\nBLOX invites you to an event that reflects on the past five years of NEB. Through keynote talks\, a fireside panel debate\, and a hands-on co-design workshop\, we’ll explore how NEB values are being activated across Europe — from built environments and biodiversity to social inclusion and new aesthetics. \nMeet experts\, practitioners\, and changemakers from the three New European Bauhaus Lighthouse projects; Designing the Irresistable Circular Society (Desire)\, Bauhaus of the Sea Sails (BoSS)\, and Eyes\, Hearts\, Hands Urban Revolution (EHHUR)\, be inspired and take part in shaping the future of NEB through cross-sector\, cross-cultural dialogue. \nProgramme: \n \nPlease note that the first part of the event (15.00 to 16.15) will be both online and open to participants in BLOX\, Copenhagen. \nThis event is for urban planners\, policymakers\, private and public organizations engaged in urban development\, thought leaders\, and everyone with a keen interest in shaping a more sustainable\, inclusive and beautiful future! \nPractical Information\n📍Location: BLOX\, BLOXHUB Members Lounge\, Bryghuspladsen 8\, 3rd. floor\, Copenhagen\n📅 Date: September 10\, 2025\n🕛 Time: 15:00–18:30\n🎥 Format: Hybrid (in-person + online)\n🌐 Language: English \nWe look forward to welcoming you online — or in person at BLOX\, Copenhagen. \nSign up here

SUMMARY:History as a toolbox - Talk with Roman Krznaric
DESCRIPTION:BLOXHUB members and friends\, \nJoin us\, in partnership with The National Museum\, The Research Center for Social Urban Modelling\, Fremtids Koalitionen\, and Grasp for a rare chance to hear renowned Australian social philosopher Roman Krznaric. \nNot familiar with Roman’s work? Catch up with his recent TED talk here! \n_______________________ \nHistory for Tomorrow\, Roman Krznaric invites us to rethink the past—not as a dusty archive\, but as a living laboratory for radical ideas. \nHow did Edo-era Tokyo thrive with nearly a million people and minimal waste\, thanks to a culture of deep circularity? \nCould the ancient water tribunal of Valencia offer clues for managing shared resources in a world of climate disruption? \nJoin us as Roman unpacks these timely lessons and reframes history as a toolbox for building a regenerative future. \nRoman Krznaric is a social philosopher who writes about the power of ideas to create change. His books include The Good Ancestor\, Empathy\, The Wonderbox and Carpe Diem Regained. \nThis talk will focus on the lessons from his latest book History for Tomorrow: Inspiration from the Past for the Future of Humanity. \nRegister your attendance here

SUMMARY:Next Gen: Circular Economic Perspectives On Data-Driven Social Change
DESCRIPTION:Going from a linear to a circular mindset is a massive transformation in the built environment\, which can only be successful with an innovative approach and through partnerships for change. \nThe panel will address the circular economic paradigm from a global perspective\, presenting three different circular solutions based on data: \n\nToday the built environment uses one LCA method\, but will this be enough to ensure a circular transition? Industrial research indicates that this is not enough – but how many do we need\, and which ones are right?\nWhat does a digital solution which aims at creating an integrated\, scalable\, and cost-effective circular value chain offer to the construction industry\, and how does it ensure the circular transition?\nHow do we transform the informal waste supply chain in cities in the Global South?\n\nWill circular economy ensure social mobility in a global context? Do data-driven solutions ensure accountability? Do data-driven solutions enhance the built environment’s transition to a circular economy? Can transparency and accountability ensure social change? These are some of the questions we will explore in this session. \nStudents and young professionals curate sessions next Gen labeled with N. \nThis panel requires a UIA ticket

SUMMARY:Can the Built Environment Save the World?
DESCRIPTION:With the Built Environment being a big contributor to CO2 emissions and climate change\, there is huge potential in rethinking the entire sector and therefore reducing the negative impact on climate and the environment. In this debate\, the panelists discuss how a Circular Built Environment can save the world through cross-sector collaboration. \n\nThis debate circulates around the question\, whether the Built Environment can save the world. We will explore and answer that question by pointing out that the built environment can be part of the solution\, when thought together with different sectors within a circular and regenerative frame. The panelists will explore how to scale circular solutions in the construction sector and provide examples of cross-sectoral collaboration based on experiences from the industrial research network about the Circular Built Environment. \nDitte Lysgaard Vind\nAssociate\nLendager \nSimon Sjökvist\nIndustrial PhD\nRoyal Danish Academy & Cobe \nLotte Breengaard\nProgram Director Urban Partnerships\nBLOXHUB \nThomas Fabian Delman\nCo-founder & CEO\nCircle Bank \nMODERATOR\nTorben Klitgaard\nCEO\nBLOXHUB \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet your free ticket HERE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n___\nThe debate is part of LOOP Conference\, a cross-sector event shining a spotlight on circular solutions for a green transition.

Sign up and get your free ticket here \nThe discussion:\nDigitalization has made access to information\, power and influence more democratic than ever. But has a democratic society and the rules\, laws and norms that define the balance between public and private\, citizen and politician responded to this digital advancement? The COVID pandemic has a true test of how democratic our current digital society is. \nFrom contact tracing to supporting local business\, to leveraging massive smart city data sets\, our digital society gives us the tools to fight this pandemic and bounce back stronger than before.   But who’s responsibility is it to ensure these digital tools truly strengthen our democracy rather than undermine it?  What is the role of in-person interaction and actual places where these digital issues collide such as the neighbourhoods where we support our local businesses\, the streets that we use or don’t use to commute to work\, or the location where we come into contact with a person with COVID-19? These are the questions and perspectives the panel will discuss. \nPanelists:\nHeidi Boye\, Too good to go \nMarius Sylvestersen\, Copenhagen Solutions Lab\, City of Copenhagen \nNanna Skovgaard\, Sundhedsministeriet \nKåre Løvgren\, IDA \nModerator:\nJeff Risom\, Chief Innovation Officer\, Gehl

SUMMARY:CIRCULAR REAL ESTATE
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Cannes! \nHow do we finance and who pays for the circular construction of the future? \nIn 2020 there is much talk about circular construction. Still\, many investors regard circular real estate projects as ‘ethical’ investments\, rather than profitable business opportunities. \nHow do we reduce the risk for investors\, and who will finance the risk? And can architects\, developers and other organizations convince investors in Denmark and abroad that circular construction is not only sustainable\, but a good business opportunity? \nWe welcome you to a lively discussion\, where inspiring examples of circularity will be tested against hard economic realities. At the end of the session\, we will hopefully be able to toast to a new platform for circular partnerships. \nPlease sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dmCetUJ \nWHERE: Boulevard de la Croisette 35\, first floor\, Cannes \nDo you have any questions?
