SUMMARY:Book Launch! The Paradox of Proximity - Preventing Urban Loneliness
DESCRIPTION:We live closer than ever – yet loneliness is rising across the globe. \nWith the launch of the book The Paradox of Proximity: Preventing Urban Loneliness\, BLOXHUB and Cities for Better Health invite you for an afternoon dedicated to viewing loneliness through an urban development lens. Loneliness is often framed as an individual condition. But what if it is also shaped by how we design housing\, structure neighbourhoods\, activate public space and govern our cities? This is where emotional urbanism comes in: recognising that cities do not only organise movement\, density and infrastructure\,  they also shape how we feel\, connect and belong. \nIf loneliness is influenced by urban systems\, it is also something cities can actively address. \n\nAbout the book\nThe Paradox of Proximity: Preventing Urban Loneliness explores one of the dilemmas of contemporary city life: how can we live closer than ever – yet feel increasingly alone? Drawing on interviews with experts from cities including Seoul\, Tokyo\, Vancouver\, Toronto\, Copenhagen\, Turku and Paris\, the book reframes loneliness as a spatial and systemic challenge also shaped by the built environment. Rather than treating loneliness solely as an individual health issue\, the publication positions urban design as a proactive tool for building social infrastructure. \n\n\nProgramme\n\n15.00\nWelcome / Torben Klitgaard (CEO\, BLOXHUB) & Jo Jewell (Director\, Cities for Better Health)\n\n15.15\nIntroduction to the book The Paradox of Proximity: Preventing Urban Loneliness\nAnn-Britt Elvin Andersen\, Chief Communication Officer\, BLOXHUB\n\n15.30\nKeynote: Cities Don’t Create Loneliness – They Concentrate It\nPete Bombaci\, Founder\, The GenWell Project (Canada)\n\n15.45\nPanel discussion: From Proximity to Belonging – Designing Against Urban Loneliness\nPanel: Jack Renteria (Founder\, Generation Global)\, Jo Jewell (Cities for Better Health)\, Ann-Britt Elvin Andersen (CCO\, BLOXHUB)\, Maya Shpiro (Social Impact Lead\, Henning Larsen)\, Markus Kalmari (Director of Sport Department\, City of Turku)\nModerator: Jakob Norman-Hansen (Director\, Global Networks & Partnerships\, BLOXHUB) \n\n16.30\nNetworking + drinks\n\nRegister your coming here

SUMMARY:Constructing Urban Life - Futures thinking as a practice of hope
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a webinar where we will explore the importance of futures thinking in shaping urban environments. \nThe future is not predetermined – it is something we shape together through our choices and imagination. \nIn a time of large challenges and uncertainty\, cities and urban life sit at the centre of environmental change\, social divides\, governance challenges\, and rapid technological shifts. Yet while uncertainty often can seem inescapable\, it can also serve as ground for imagination and transformation. What if instead of being overwhelmed by it\, we saw it as an opportunity? \nTogether\, we will ask: \n\nHow can we move beyond narrow dominant narratives of the future of cities?\nHow can imagination and future scenarios help us uncover new pathways for resilience\, regeneration\, and equity in cities?\nHow can city makers\, policymakers\, and the building industry reclaim hope as a collective\, grounded\, and actionable force?\n\nDrawing on insights from our project Constructing Urban Life\, this conversation will highlight how futures thinking enables us to: \n\nCultivate futures thinking in the urban community.\nChallenge dominant assumptions and open new spaces of possibility.\nTranslate long-term visions into practical action and insights.\n\nHosted by the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies & BLOXHUB. \nSpeakers:\nDitte Lysgaard Vind\, Chief Innovation & Science Officer\, Bloxhub \nLovisa Volmarsson\, Advisor & Futurist\, Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies \nSign up

SUMMARY:Transforming Irresistible Circular Societies
DESCRIPTION:Transforming places into irresistible circular societies is both ambitious and difficult. No well-defined step-by-step guide exists. But we can get quite far if we embrace the process with curiosity\, stay open to new ideas and learn to treat differences with respect.   \nThe Desire Transformation Guide compiles what the transformation processes in the eight Desire lighthouses taught us. It offers concrete advice\, key considerations\, and inspirational examples for facilitating a participatory\, multi-level\, and cross-disciplinary transformation process.    \nThe guide has attracted strong interest from people and organisations beyond the Desire community. It was developed by Danish Design Center\, applying deep knowledge about design and design-driven methods and approaches. This is your opportunity to interact directly with Danish Design Center about how to:  \n\n\nBuild and maintain trust \n\n\nEstablish and nurture ownership \n\n\nPrioritise empathy and deep care for place \n\n\n…and explore more of the themes that define the guide. \n\n\nDate: 30th October 2025     \nTime: 15.00-16.30 (CET)     \nPlace: Online  \nRegistration link – a link to Teams will be shared on October 29th\, EoB. \nWe are looking forward to seeing you!

SUMMARY:Webinar: How Do You Co-Create a Local Community with the Power to Transform?
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to launch the Irresistible Cities Lab — a new initiative dedicated to exploring how cities can be shaped through collective action and local empowerment. In this first webinar\, we invite you to dive into an inspiring story from Amsterdam\, where partners have been working with residents to transform their neighborhood from the ground up. \nIn Amsterdam’s Wildeman neighborhood\, two local NGOs have partnered with residents to forge a new path for urban transformation. This initiative is driven by a bottom-up approach\, empowering community members to find their voice and actively participate in meetings with city officials and professional stakeholders. Through this process\, the neighborhood is shaping its own identity\, fostering trust among residents and strengthening connections with the broader community. \nThis webinar will explore the journey of the past two years working with Design & Do Groups — a collaborative model that turns ideas into action. Their experience offers valuable insights and inspiration for sparking transformation in your own community. \nThe session will feature a mix of presentations and discussions. Meet Sustainist & Civic Designer Diana Krabbendam (The Beach)\, Social Designer Rosalie Bak (Samenwonen-Samenleven)\, and more\, as they share their perspectives and experiences. \nNo registration required—simply join us via this link. \nMore on our new Irresistable Cities Lab here. \nContact Aase Højlund Nielsen for more info.
