SUMMARY:Science Talks: Biomimicry & Regenerative Design
DESCRIPTION:JOIN US for the next Science Talks: Biomimicry & Regenerative Design \nAt this Science Talk on August 18\, we’ll be joined by the Architect Michael Pawlyn\, who has been described as an expert in regenerative design and biomimicry. He established his firm Exploration Architecture in 2007 to focus on high performance buildings and solutions for the circular economy. \nSince 2018 he has been increasingly providing advice to national governments and large companies on transformative change\, and he is also the author of two books. \nIn this talk Michael will give his perspective on the key differences between conventional sustainability and the emerging paradigm of regenerative design. He will describe how biomimicry – learning design lessons from the living world – will be a crucial part of this transformation. The talk will be illustrated with projects which explain how this thinking can be applied in a practical way. \n______ \nWith Science Talks\, BLOXHUB invites you to participate and engage with researchers. Each Science Talks presents a current research topic that contributes to the many discussions amongst decision makers\, practitioners\, and researchers. \nIn other words\, Science Talks are IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE ON TRENDING TOPICS – ON DEMAND. \nSign up here:

SUMMARY:A Roadmap for a Circular Economy within the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:“Risk-sharing” is\, again and again\, being discussed as a critical factor in accelerating the Circular Economy within the building industry\, thus going from pilot projects to mainstream. But is there a need for the industry to broaden its understanding of the ability and willingness to work with risks in its business models? \nTogether with SKANSKA HQ (SE)\, The Bridge by Altitude (SE)\, WE BUILD DENMARK and The Embassy of Denmark in Sweden and the Embassy’s Design Impact Hub\, BLOXHUB would like to invite you to a workshop on Monday the 29th of August from 9:00 – 16:00 at BLOXHUB in Copenhagen. \nThe case of the workshop will be a specific case of Skanska from Sweden\, which will undergo the focus of the workshop. To stimulate the workshop\, we will include the incentives of an international insurance company that works with risk-sharing analysis within the building industry\, in the workshop. The workshop will use this insurance company’s perspective on integrating a risk framework into a business model to develop new business models within Circular Economy in the built environment. \nThe workshop is a facilitated process with a mix of inspirational talks\, interdisciplinary group discussions\, and co-creation sessions. Workshop participants consist of a wide range of stakeholders within the built environment – decision-makers\, practitioners\, and researchers – to ensure a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to the subject. \nWould you like to join?\nShould you have any questions or would you like to join please do not hesitate to contact Program Manager at BLOXHUB Torben Krab\, at +45 51624031 / tkr@bloxhub.org

SUMMARY:REGENERATE NOW – How can we reimagine our cities?
DESCRIPTION:Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies and BLOXHUB invite you to an exploration of a regenerative world and a reimagination of our cities with a series of events launching in late August. \nTo regenerate means not only to do less harm\, but to become a positive force to restore\, renew\, regrow\, and revitalise and to give back more than we take\, just like the many ecological systems we can find and experience in nature. Through these events\, we will explore how we can create a regenerative world that works within the planetary boundaries and ecological systems to create a future where humankind\, nature and our cities can all thrive and flourish. \nWe are looking at a future where our cities will be larger and more complex than today\, presenting a number of global challenges and opportunities for the 21st century. Among the major changes taking place are demographic shifts\, technological development\, environmental threats\, economic (de)growth and (in)equality\, as well as political uncertainty. Today cities represent an emerging global governing power crucial to addressing and solving some of the world’s most pressing issues. This puts cities on the forefront of a regenerative transformation. \nWe believe it is time to REGENERATE NOW. Join us for the first event on the 30th of August by signing up here: https://bit.ly/3nkmOeX

SUMMARY:Multifunctional\, Safe & Resilient Playgrounds in Urban Areas - How to?
DESCRIPTION:How do we think beyond limited space making dense urban areas vibrant\, desirable\, sustainable\, and resilient with a full range of amenities? Together with Bezirksamt Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg von Berlin and WE BUILD DENMARK we would like to invite you to a 1-day workshop where we will take a deep dive into the overall challenge of how playgrounds can be designed to be inclusive\, climate-resilient\, clean\, safe\, open\, accommodating different groups of users\, without limiting the original function of providing a protected space for children. The quest calls for creativity and the ability to design for multifunctional purposes. \nAt the workshop we will look at the challenge from four different perspectives: \n\nInclusive & barrier-free: How can playgrounds be designed inclusively and barrier-free with the involvement of different user groups – children included?\nClimate-resilient & sustainable: How can playgrounds be designed to be climate-resilient to mitigate the effects of climate change\, preserve biodiversity and allow for usability despite climatic changes?\nClean & open: How can playgrounds be designed using technical\, design and organizational elements to promote an individual sense of cleanliness and safety so that the users feel comfortable?\nFlexible & versatile: Which technical\, design\, and organizational measures can be implemented for playgrounds\, facilitating use at different times and periods without limiting the original purpose of playgrounds to be a safe space for children?\n\nThe workshop is organized by BLOXHUB and will be a facilitated process with a mix of inspirational talks\, interdisciplinary group discussions\, and co-creation sessions. Based on a specific yet representative case provided by Bezirksamt Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg von Berlin the aim of the workshop is to generate ideas and prototype solutions which can be implemented and scaled to other areas. Workshop participants consist of members from the BLOXHUB ecosystem and selected stakeholders from Berlin to ensure a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to the subject. Each group will work with one of the four perspectives and cross-pollination between the groups is included to make sure that the workshop output includes all the elements needed to solve the complex challenge. \nWould you like to join?\nPlease contact Program Director at BLOXHUB Lotte C. SUMMARY:Building Skins as a New Sustainable Approach Towards Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Climate change presents our urban environment and buildings with a wide range of challenges\, and we need to adapt the way we plan and build with these challenges in mind to be able to secure the future and livability of our cities and buildings. \nGreen building skins can be one part of a broader range of actions to counter climate change. They not only provide solutions within the context of climate change – such as reduction of heat island effect\, extended water retention\, and rainwater collection – they also o er significant added value in improving microclimate and increasing biodiversity in urban areas. \nWerner Sobek and BLOXHUB\, Urban Partnerships would like to invite you to a 1-day workshop where we zoom in on how building skins can be used to handle climate change and bring about a significant reduction of the ecological impact of our buildings. \nAt the workshop we will discuss challenges and opportunities and identify ideas\, concepts\, and solutions related to how building skins of the future should perform to support a successful sustainable transition\, that takes into account more extreme environmental conditions. \nThe workshop is organized by BLOXHUB and will be a facilitated process with a mix of inspirational talks\, interdisciplinary group discussions\, and co-creation sessions. \n___ \nPlease contact Program Director at BLOXHUB Lotte Breengaard for further information regarding content and registration; lcb@bloxhub.org / +45 22 68 46 43

SUMMARY:Safe Urban Spaces for All\, Many\, Few
DESCRIPTION:Although Denmark is one of the safest countries in the World\, the Safety Survey from 2021 (Tryghedsmålingen) shows that there is reason to pay attention – the number of people feeling unsafe after dark in their immediate environment has almost doubled since 2015; from 11% to 20% in 2021. And that has consequences – for the quality of life\, for freedom of movement\, for how we use and design urban spaces. \nTogether with JUUL FROST ARCHITECTS\, we invite you to a 1-day workshop focusing on how we can increase the experience of safety in cities. At the workshop\, we will examine and challenge ideas and solutions that can be elements in an answer to how the city and urban spaces are rethought creating opportunities for social and functional diversity and security among the many users. \nThe workshop is organized by BLOXHUB as a facilitated process and the participants consist of a wide circle of stakeholders to ensure that the ideas are developed at the intersection between the greatest possible interdisciplinary and different interests. In addition to group exercises/discussions\, the day offers inspirational presentations by Ole B. Jensen from the Department of Architecture and Media Technology at Aalborg University\, Mikkel Bille from the University of Copenhagen\, Helle Juul from JUUL FROST ARCHITECTS\, and Sofie Kirt Strandbygaard from DTU Orbit. \nWould you like to know more about the workshop and how to register please contact Program Director at BLOXHUB Lotte C. Breengaard; +45 2268 4643 / lcb@bloxhub.org \n____\nNB The workshop is in Danish \n

SUMMARY:Risk Barriers in Sustainable Construction
DESCRIPTION:Risks and the perception of risks associated with the use of new and unproven materials in construction projects is a significant barrier. It is therefore necessary that we understand the current risk barriers prevailing in the industry to find out how they can be handled and reduced. \nBLOXHUB and Værdibyg invite you to an all-day workshop where we will analyze the risks that slow down the sustainable transition within the built environment. Together we will try to break down the risk barriers into manageable sub-barriers and identify potential solutions. \nThe workshop is organized by BLOXHUB and Værdibyg as a facilitated process with a mixture of group exercises and discussions as well as inspirational presentations. \nAt the workshop\, we will seek to answers the following questions: \n\nWhich risks are obstacles to the use of sustainable materials?\nWith which measures can these risks be handled/minimized/mitigated?\nWhat potentials and opportunities exist for the present and in the future?\n\nWould you like to know more about the workshop and how to register please contact Lotte C. Breengaard\, lcb@bloxhub.org. \n____\nNB The workshop is in Danish

SUMMARY:Online Roundtable on Multifunctional Spaces for Children
DESCRIPTION: There are more and more of us in the cities and limited space is very often a challenge. The group of citizens that share the city’s space is diverse\, there are so many wishes and dreams\, and yet so much space is designed for one purpose only. Creating space for children in dense cities is often a tricky task and we need innovative solutions to make our cities child friendly. How can Danish and Chinese companies support each other in this regard?  \nAt this Roundtable\, we will discuss and share knowledge and ideas on: How can we design space for children that can be used by other groups of users in Denmark and China? Overall\, we will discuss how building several functionalities into one space can solve the urban space challenge\, and playgrounds are just an example.  \nPROGRAM \nWelcome and intro\, Lotte Breengaard\, Program Director\, BLOXHUB\nIntroduction of Innovation Centre Denmark\, Martin Hoxer\, Executive Director\, ICDK Shanghai\n”Tour de table”\, Presentation of all\nIntroduction to multifunctional use of urban space\nIntroduction to urban space challenge for children in China and the willingness to share seen from Chinese perspective\nRoundtable discussion:  \n\nCan we solve urban space challenges by building several functionalities into one space? \nHow can we design space for children that can be used by other groups of users? \n\nHow can Danish and Chinese companies support each other with this approach?\nSum up\, Lotte Breengaard and Martin Hoxer  \nPlease contact Program Director Lotte Christina Breengaard if you would like to join:\nm   +45 2268 4643\ne    lcb@bloxhub.org

SUMMARY:Dignity in the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:There are bold ambitions underway in Europe to address climate change in the built environment. The focus is on reducing the impacts of materials\, shifting to renewable energy sources\, increasing energy efficiency\, and strengthening resilience.  \nThe implications of the Ukraine-Russia conflict have highlighted the importance of these efforts in the region. All of these processes can be done in a way that continues to deepen inequality and undermines human rights\, or in a way that pursues a pathway that advances a “just transition” by expanding social opportunities.  \nThis session will deepen understanding of the what & how of social risks and opportunities in the built environment with the internationally-recognized Human Rights Framework as a starting point. \n\nPROGRAM: \n08.30 Arrivals and coffee \n9.00 Setting the Scene: Introducing session topics \n\nWelcome by Torben Klitgaard (BLOXHUB) \nPresentations by Morten Kjærum (RWI)\, John Morrison (IHRB)\,\nAndreia Fidalgo (IHRB Nordic)\, Alice Haugh (Laudes Foundation)\, and Jostein Kobbeltvedt (Rafto Foundation) \nDiscussion with Q&A\n\n10.00 Let’s get concrete: What does this mean in practice\, and what examples \nshowcase dignity in the built environment? \n\nPanel Conversation with Jostein Kobbeltvedt (Rafto Foundation)\, Asal Mohtashami (AIM-byliv)\, Danila Lampis (Spacelab Arkitekter)\, and Michael Ulfstjerne (Emergency Architecture)\n\n10.30 Break & Networking \n10.50 Nordic innovations in social inclusion in the built environment \n\nPanel Conversation with Emil Lassen (Home.Earth)\, Moa Sundberg (Helsingborg Municipality)\, Torben Klitgaard (BLOXHUB)\, and Ulrika Signal (Tengbom)\n\n11.20 ”Just transition” in the built environment \n\nPanel Conversation with Curt Liliegreen (The Knowledge Centre for Housing Economics\, Realdania)\, Troels Bulow-Olsen (AP Ejendomme)\, Christine Rasmunsen (Rambøll Management Consulting)\, Claus Højte (LLO)\, and Ivone Martins (EEA)\n\n\n11.50 Group Work \n\nWhat would you like to see more of / less of from the public sector\, from the private sector\, from the civil society\, and from academia to support the ”just transition” in the built environment?\n\n12.10 Closing & Networking \nSIGN UP HERE:

SUMMARY:Sustainable Renovation & Facility Management in Sweden & Denmark
DESCRIPTION:Together with WE BUILD DENMARK\, The Danish Embassy in Stockholm\, and PropTech Denmark\, BLOXHUB would like to invite you to a workshop on sustainable renovation and facility management. \nWe will welcome a Swedish delegation of decision-makers from Helsingborgs-Hem\, Riksbyggen\, Örebro Bostäder\, Stena Fastigheter\, and Familjebostäder Stockholm\, who are here on a two-day trip to discuss energy renovation and  sustainable facility management of affordable housing buildings and take a deep dive into the challenge of: \nHow can we sustainably renovate and manage affordable housing facilities and deliver on housing quality\, climate goals\, energy requirements\, and economic budgets? \nCutting-edge technology solutions with a documented high impact on reducing CO2 emission are often expensive with a long RoI perspective. Consequently\, these solutions often fall due to budget restraints. An important challenge in securing the most effective energy renovation of buildings is therefore to develop new financing mechanisms and contract models\, which can increase the incentives for investing in the most CO2-reducing technologies. \nThe workshop will be a facilitated process with a mix of inspirational talks\, interdisciplinary group discussions\, and co-creation sessions. \nWould you like to join? Please reach out to Program Manager at BLOXHUB Torben Krab for further information about the workshop and how to register: +45 51624031 / tkr@bloxhub.org \n
