SUMMARY:Can Public Tenders contribute to promoting Diversity and Creativity in Construction?
DESCRIPTION:Together with Arkitektforeningen we invite stakeholders from across the construction industry to join us for a discussion about which framework strengthens innovation\, the quality of the built environment\, and the client’s need for risk management. We will take a deep dive into the following questions: \nHow is the process between politicians\, developers\, and architects simplified and expectations aligned? \nHow should competence requirements be set out in the tender material to ensure architectural quality\, diversity\, and innovation? \nWhat assessment criteria can be established to judge architectural quality and creativity? \nHow do we get better at handling risk in practice\, and what could this mean for the tender framework and the conditions? \nHow to promote collaboration\, trust-building\, and a more iterative process between provider and bidder in the tender framework? \n___ \nPlease contact BLOXHUB Program Director Lotte C. Breengaard for further information on how to apply: +45 2268 4643 / lcb@bloxhub.org_____ \nNB: The workshop is in Danish \n

SUMMARY:DARE Symposium: Entangled Scales: Urban & Rural Interaction
DESCRIPTION:Danish Network for Architecture and Urbanism Research – DARE invites to a research symposium\nENTANGLED SCALES: URBAN & RURAL INTERACTION \nOBJECTIVES:\nClimate change and the biodiversity crisis call for a new and far more comprehensive understanding of scales that operate in entangled correlations\, rather than isolated enclaves. The ”ENTANGLED SCALES – Urban and Rural Interaction” Symposium focuses on overlapping scales and deep landscape structures as a background for fundamental research in Denmark’s future architectural development. To plan and build as an inter-connected organism\, from the open landscape over hinterlands\, suburbs and cities\, and down to the single building and detail\, rather than randomly planned\, disconnected units\, is the core research question of this symposium. \nThe objective of the symposium is to not only share our current research projects within aspects of entangled scales\, but also to identify potential research collaborations and potentially\, to identify a joint research project that can work across and connect all scales of the built environment. \nThe format will be participatory with 2X2 presentations that will set the scene for debates at the tables with feed-back in plenum. There will be participation both from academia and companies giving the opportunity for networking and discussions covering many aspects of the theme. \nThis is the first symposium out of three exploratory forums for contemporary research in architecture\, urban design and landscape planning. The next symposium will be in Autumn 2023: “BUILDING AS AN ORGANISM” and August 2024: “THE POWER OF KNOWLEDGE: RIGHTS TO DEFINE FUTURES” \nSIGN UP: Please send an e-mail to Pernille Berg\, Science Director at BLOXHUB: pbe@bloxhub.org \n______ \nPROGRAM:\n9.30 Coffee & registration \n10.00 Welcome by Hans Jørgen Andersen and Thomas Bo Jensen \n10.10 – 12.00 CONTINUUM \n\nTom Nielsen\, Professor at Aarhus School of Architecture talks about his new book ”BYEN DANMARK”\, in which he reads\nDenmark as one big coherent city.\nJonna Majgaard Krarup from Royal Danish Academy talks about rural landscapes: lessons to be learnt?\nShort break\nIdentifying potential collaboration in groups \n\n12.15-13.00 Lunch \n13.00 – 15.00 WATER \n\nIda Sofie Gøtzsche Lange\, Aalborg University talks about the lives of small Danish commercial harbours and their influence on the rural landscape\nKatrina Wiberg\, Aarhus School of Architecture talks about ”The Missing Link” a methodology to read the deep patterns of the landscapes\,\nwhich dwells under our cities\, and to deal with the transformation of our landscapes and cities with water as a guide.\nShort break\nIdentifying potential collaboration in groups \n\n15.00 Plenum Discussion  \n\nHow is research applied and which role does architectural research play in the topic of climate change? Can we glimpse a common game changing research project between our institutions?

SUMMARY:From Yellow Cornfields to Green Megawatts
DESCRIPTION:Planning Challenges in connection with Solar Energy \nDenmark is facing a green energy revolution that will radically change our use of land. It is one of the biggest planning challenges in recent times and it is urgent to find space for efficient and renewable energy facilities. But if Denmark is to become a beautiful\, green power plant\, we must find new and smarter ways to manage our land. Cause smart land management and happy coexistence with new energy-producing landscapes require other considerations than just space\, profitability\, and low operating costs. \nBased on selected cases workshop participants will work on formulating an overall vision and a series of ideas and instructions based on two different tracks: \n\nThe planning track: How can overall energy planning for a municipality look like? What aesthetic and landscape considerations\, legal bindings and other considerations must and can form the basis of long-term and robust physical planning?\nThe partnership track: What common vision and what common goals can be set? Which partnerships must be entered that enable an alternative placement of future solar parks?\n\nThe workshop is organized by BLOXHUB in collaboration with Schønherr Landscape Architects as a facilitated process with the participation of a wide circle of public and private stakeholders to ensure that the ideas are developed in the intersection between the greatest possible interdisciplinary and different interests. \nAs a participant\, you will actively participate in group exercises and discussions\, work with specific cases and get inspiration from selected speakers. \nWould you like to join? Please reach out to Program Director in BLOXHUB Lotte C. Breengaard for further information about the workshop and how to register: lcb@bloxhub.org / +45 2268 4643 \n___\nNB The workshop will be facilitated in Danish only \n

SUMMARY:Sustainable Renovation & Facility Management in Sweden & Denmark
DESCRIPTION:Together with WE BUILD DENMARK\, The Danish Embassy in Stockholm\, and PropTech Denmark\, BLOXHUB would like to invite you to a workshop on sustainable renovation and facility management. \nWe will welcome a Swedish delegation of decision-makers from Helsingborgs-Hem\, Riksbyggen\, Örebro Bostäder\, Stena Fastigheter\, and Familjebostäder Stockholm\, who are here on a two-day trip to discuss energy renovation and  sustainable facility management of affordable housing buildings and take a deep dive into the challenge of: \nHow can we sustainably renovate and manage affordable housing facilities and deliver on housing quality\, climate goals\, energy requirements\, and economic budgets? \nCutting-edge technology solutions with a documented high impact on reducing CO2 emission are often expensive with a long RoI perspective. Consequently\, these solutions often fall due to budget restraints. An important challenge in securing the most effective energy renovation of buildings is therefore to develop new financing mechanisms and contract models\, which can increase the incentives for investing in the most CO2-reducing technologies. \nThe workshop will be a facilitated process with a mix of inspirational talks\, interdisciplinary group discussions\, and co-creation sessions. \nWould you like to join? Please reach out to Program Manager at BLOXHUB Torben Krab for further information about the workshop and how to register: +45 51624031 / tkr@bloxhub.org \n

SUMMARY:REGENERATE Future
DESCRIPTION:Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies and BLOXHUB invite you to the final event in the series Regenerate Now\, and our continued exploration of a regenerative world and the reimagination of our cities.  \nTo regenerate means not only to do less harm\, but to become a positive force that restore\, renew\, regrow\, and revitalise and that give back more than we take\, just like the many ecological systems we can find and experience in nature. Through the previous events we have discussed how to regenerate our cities\, culture and architecture and explored how we can create a regenerative world that works within the planetary boundaries and ecological systems.   \nIn this event\, we look towards the future and explore how we can move towards a regenerative transformation of our planet and what action we can take today to create a world where humankind\, nature and our cities can all thrive and flourish both now and for future generations.    \nGet enlightened by experts through a talk and a panel discussion: \nStefano Ponte\, professor of International Political Economy at Copenhagen Business School. Stefano is primarily interested in transnational economic and environmental governance\, with focus on overlaps and tensions between private authority and public regulation and conducts research on global value chains and sustainability.  \nGeanne Van Arkel\, chair of the supervisory board of Thematic Technology Transfer on circular technology and a fellow of the Governance & Sustainability Center at The Conference Board. Geanne works in the field of regenerative strategic business development based on holistic system thinking and biomimicry design thinking.  \nArthur Huang\, Co-founder\, and CEO of Miniwiz. Arthur is a structural engineer\, architect and pioneer of loop economy building material solutions\, specialized in post-consumer trash recycling applications to help shift mass consumption to a close-loop model.   \nFinn Williams\, City Architect of Malmö. SUMMARY:Online Roundtable on Developing City Districts for Children
DESCRIPTION:According to UNICEF\, “Every child has the right to grow up in a place where they are respected\, valued and feel safe\, where they have access to basic services and can play\, learn\, grow in a clean and healthy environment where their voice is heard and matters”. Communities are crucial for our development\, well-being\, and health – not least the children’s. And activity and play are crucial for children’s physical and cognitive development and interaction with others. So\, can we develop city districts\, from a child’s perspective\, and supports communities for all ages\, and how can Danish and Chinese companies support each other in this regard?  \nAt this Roundtable\, we will discuss and share knowledge and ideas on:  \n\nHow to develop city districts to be experienced as friendly from a child’s perspective? \nWhether\, by establishing a city district that meets the children’s wishes and needs\, we can strengthen the community among all inhabitants? \nWhat additional benefits there can be from this approach? \n\nPROGRAM \nWelcome and intro\, Lotte Breengaard\, Program Director\, BLOXHUB\nIntroduction of Innovation Centre Denmark\, Martin Hoxer\, Executive Director\, ICDK Shanghai\n”Tour de table”\, Presentation of all\nIntroduction to the theme of child friendly cities\nPerspectives on the idea “urban development from a child´s perspective in China”\nDiscussion:\n \n\nHow to develop a city district to be experienced as friendly from child perspective \nWhether\, by establishing a city district that meets the children’s wishes and needs\, we can strengthen the community among all inhabitants \nWhat additional benefits there can be from this approach \n\nHow can Danish and Chinese companies support each other with this approach?\nSum up\, Lotte Breengaard and Martin Hoxer  \nPlease contact Program Director Lotte Christina Breengaard if you would like to join:\nm   +45 2268 4643\ne    lcb@bloxhub.org

SUMMARY:Dignity in the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:There are bold ambitions underway in Europe to address climate change in the built environment. The focus is on reducing the impacts of materials\, shifting to renewable energy sources\, increasing energy efficiency\, and strengthening resilience.  \nThe implications of the Ukraine-Russia conflict have highlighted the importance of these efforts in the region. All of these processes can be done in a way that continues to deepen inequality and undermines human rights\, or in a way that pursues a pathway that advances a “just transition” by expanding social opportunities.  \nThis session will deepen understanding of the what & how of social risks and opportunities in the built environment with the internationally-recognized Human Rights Framework as a starting point. \n\nPROGRAM: \n08.30 Arrivals and coffee \n9.00 Setting the Scene: Introducing session topics \n\nWelcome by Torben Klitgaard (BLOXHUB) \nPresentations by Morten Kjærum (RWI)\, John Morrison (IHRB)\,\nAndreia Fidalgo (IHRB Nordic)\, Alice Haugh (Laudes Foundation)\, and Jostein Kobbeltvedt (Rafto Foundation) \nDiscussion with Q&A\n\n10.00 Let’s get concrete: What does this mean in practice\, and what examples \nshowcase dignity in the built environment? \n\nPanel Conversation with Jostein Kobbeltvedt (Rafto Foundation)\, Asal Mohtashami (AIM-byliv)\, Danila Lampis (Spacelab Arkitekter)\, and Michael Ulfstjerne (Emergency Architecture)\n\n10.30 Break & Networking \n10.50 Nordic innovations in social inclusion in the built environment \n\nPanel Conversation with Emil Lassen (Home.Earth)\, Moa Sundberg (Helsingborg Municipality)\, Torben Klitgaard (BLOXHUB)\, and Ulrika Signal (Tengbom)\n\n11.20 ”Just transition” in the built environment \n\nPanel Conversation with Curt Liliegreen (The Knowledge Centre for Housing Economics\, Realdania)\, Troels Bulow-Olsen (AP Ejendomme)\, Christine Rasmunsen (Rambøll Management Consulting)\, Claus Højte (LLO)\, and Ivone Martins (EEA)\n\n\n11.50 Group Work \n\nWhat would you like to see more of / less of from the public sector\, from the private sector\, from the civil society\, and from academia to support the ”just transition” in the built environment?\n\n12.10 Closing & Networking \nSIGN UP HERE:

SUMMARY:Online Roundtable on Multifunctional Spaces for Children
DESCRIPTION: There are more and more of us in the cities and limited space is very often a challenge. The group of citizens that share the city’s space is diverse\, there are so many wishes and dreams\, and yet so much space is designed for one purpose only. Creating space for children in dense cities is often a tricky task and we need innovative solutions to make our cities child friendly. How can Danish and Chinese companies support each other in this regard?  \nAt this Roundtable\, we will discuss and share knowledge and ideas on: How can we design space for children that can be used by other groups of users in Denmark and China? Overall\, we will discuss how building several functionalities into one space can solve the urban space challenge\, and playgrounds are just an example.  \nPROGRAM \nWelcome and intro\, Lotte Breengaard\, Program Director\, BLOXHUB\nIntroduction of Innovation Centre Denmark\, Martin Hoxer\, Executive Director\, ICDK Shanghai\n”Tour de table”\, Presentation of all\nIntroduction to multifunctional use of urban space\nIntroduction to urban space challenge for children in China and the willingness to share seen from Chinese perspective\nRoundtable discussion:  \n\nCan we solve urban space challenges by building several functionalities into one space? \nHow can we design space for children that can be used by other groups of users? \n\nHow can Danish and Chinese companies support each other with this approach?\nSum up\, Lotte Breengaard and Martin Hoxer  \nPlease contact Program Director Lotte Christina Breengaard if you would like to join:\nm   +45 2268 4643\ne    lcb@bloxhub.org

SUMMARY:Risk Barriers in Sustainable Construction
DESCRIPTION:Risks and the perception of risks associated with the use of new and unproven materials in construction projects is a significant barrier. It is therefore necessary that we understand the current risk barriers prevailing in the industry to find out how they can be handled and reduced. \nBLOXHUB and Værdibyg invite you to an all-day workshop where we will analyze the risks that slow down the sustainable transition within the built environment. Together we will try to break down the risk barriers into manageable sub-barriers and identify potential solutions. \nThe workshop is organized by BLOXHUB and Værdibyg as a facilitated process with a mixture of group exercises and discussions as well as inspirational presentations. \nAt the workshop\, we will seek to answers the following questions: \n\nWhich risks are obstacles to the use of sustainable materials?\nWith which measures can these risks be handled/minimized/mitigated?\nWhat potentials and opportunities exist for the present and in the future?\n\nWould you like to know more about the workshop and how to register please contact Lotte C. SUMMARY:Safe Urban Spaces for All\, Many\, Few
DESCRIPTION:Although Denmark is one of the safest countries in the World\, the Safety Survey from 2021 (Tryghedsmålingen) shows that there is reason to pay attention – the number of people feeling unsafe after dark in their immediate environment has almost doubled since 2015; from 11% to 20% in 2021. And that has consequences – for the quality of life\, for freedom of movement\, for how we use and design urban spaces. \nTogether with JUUL FROST ARCHITECTS\, we invite you to a 1-day workshop focusing on how we can increase the experience of safety in cities. At the workshop\, we will examine and challenge ideas and solutions that can be elements in an answer to how the city and urban spaces are rethought creating opportunities for social and functional diversity and security among the many users. \nThe workshop is organized by BLOXHUB as a facilitated process and the participants consist of a wide circle of stakeholders to ensure that the ideas are developed at the intersection between the greatest possible interdisciplinary and different interests. In addition to group exercises/discussions\, the day offers inspirational presentations by Ole B. Jensen from the Department of Architecture and Media Technology at Aalborg University\, Mikkel Bille from the University of Copenhagen\, Helle Juul from JUUL FROST ARCHITECTS\, and Sofie Kirt Strandbygaard from DTU Orbit. \nWould you like to know more about the workshop and how to register please contact Program Director at BLOXHUB Lotte C. SUMMARY:Science Talks: Implementing regenerative development
DESCRIPTION:JOIN US for the next Science Talks: Implementing regenerative development \nHave you ever wondered what regenerative development is? What a regenerative city might look like? How it might operate? What the advantages are of adopting a regenerative approach to urban systems? What levers might be used to transform cities and what the likely challenges to implementation would be? This talk will explore and answer these questions. \nAt this Science Talk on October 6th\, we’ll be joined by Professor Jo Williams who is the founder and Director of the Circular Cities Hub. Jo is an expert in regenerative\, low carbon\, resource looping\, and adaptive urban systems. She has been engaged by nation states\, consultants\, and cities to advise on the implementation of ecologically regenerative urban systems. \n______ \nWith Science Talks\, BLOXHUB invites you to participate and engage with researchers. Each Science Talk presents a current research topic that contributes to the many discussions amongst decision-makers\, practitioners\, and researchers. \nIn other words\, Science Talks are IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE ON TRENDING TOPICS – ON DEMAND. \nSign up here: \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Debate: REGENERATE Architecture
DESCRIPTION:REGENERATE ARCHITECTURE – HOW CAN ARCHITECTURE BECOME A FORCE TOWARDS A REGENERATIVE CITY? \nCopenhagen Institute for Futures Studies and BLOXHUB invite you to the second event in the series Regenerate Now\, and our continued exploration of a regenerative world and the reimagination of our cities. \nTo regenerate means not only to do less harm\, but to become a positive force that restore\, renew\, regrow\, and revitalise and that give back more than we take\, just like the many ecological systems we can find and experience in nature. Through these events\, we will explore how we can create a regenerative world that works within the planetary boundaries and ecological systems to create a future where humankind\, nature and our cities can all thrive and flourish. \nIn this third event\, we explore the role regenerative architecture can play in creating a regenerative transformation of our cities where humanity and nature can co-exist. \nPanel:\nNikolaj Sveistrup\, Associate Partner\, Copenhagen Institue for Future Studies\nPeter Mørk\, International Business Strategist \nWe believe it is time to REGENERATE NOW. \nRead more about Regenerate Now here: https://bloxhub.org/events/debates/ \nSign up here:
