SUMMARY:Next Gen: Circular Economic Perspectives On Data-Driven Social Change
DESCRIPTION:Going from a linear to a circular mindset is a massive transformation in the built environment\, which can only be successful with an innovative approach and through partnerships for change. \nThe panel will address the circular economic paradigm from a global perspective\, presenting three different circular solutions based on data: \n\nToday the built environment uses one LCA method\, but will this be enough to ensure a circular transition? Industrial research indicates that this is not enough – but how many do we need\, and which ones are right?\nWhat does a digital solution which aims at creating an integrated\, scalable\, and cost-effective circular value chain offer to the construction industry\, and how does it ensure the circular transition?\nHow do we transform the informal waste supply chain in cities in the Global South?\n\nWill circular economy ensure social mobility in a global context? Do data-driven solutions ensure accountability? Do data-driven solutions enhance the built environment’s transition to a circular economy? Can transparency and accountability ensure social change? These are some of the questions we will explore in this session. \nStudents and young professionals curate sessions next Gen labeled with N. \nThis panel requires a UIA ticket

SUMMARY:What Forces will Drive the Future of Food?
DESCRIPTION:Workshop & Talk \n12:30-15:30 \nPlace: Arena \nThis event is a collaboration between BLOXHUB & Schmidt Hammer Lassen\, who has developed a collective design methodology to translate diverse challenges into tangible solutions. This workshop will allow participants to share their challenges and experiences and work towards inventing solutions they can implement locally. \nParticipants form groups to co-create an open-source deck of knowledge cards as an idea bank and resource for imagining the potential of urban food systems. The cards will be developed on the spot with a customized phone app and presented in real-time at the event. \nA talk will follow this workshop:  \nFood-Hacktivism \nTime: 16:00-18:00 \nPlace: Arena \nThe future is already here; it’s just not evenly distributed. By looking at existing cultures and methods of producing food that could point to an alternative future\, we explore the potential of re-wiring our cities through hacktivism: the practice of stitching together new systems of self-sufficiency with tools and technologies at hand. \nSign-up here:

SUMMARY:Leave no one behind: Unpacking Exclusion in the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND: UNPACKING EXCLUSION IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT\n\nAUGUST 24 @ 15:00 – 16:00\n\n\n\nThis talk addresses how to pave the way toward a more equitable built environment by delving into the theme of exclusion and inclusion as it relates to architecture. \nThe talk examines how the built environment establishes distinctions between inclusion and exclusion and discusses\, from this perspective\, the norms and ideas inherent in existing architectural practices. Spatial and temporal distinctions\, as well as asymmetrical roles given to visual\, auditory\, tactile\, olfactory\, and taste elements\, are significant as they give rise to hierarchical relations between individuals\, forms of life\, forms of experience\, and knowledge. \nThe talk concludes with a debate on implementing the principle of “Dignity and agency for all people is fundamental in architecture; there is no beauty in exclusion.”  This is the first of the ten principles in the Copenhagen Lessons\, presented at the closing of the UIA World Congress of Architects 2023 “Sustainable Futures – Leave no one behind.”  \nBe prepared to expand your horizons and explore how to actively participate in the transformative changes needed to pave the way for an architecture that leaves no one behind. \nSpeakers: \nNatalie Mossin\, Architect and President of Congress at UIA World Congress of Architects \nChristiane Mossin\, Ph.D.\, Copenhagen Business School \nThis talk is part of our Science Talks Series 2023\, which explores the path to a future where no one and nothing is left behind. The series is a cooperation between BLOXHUB and The UIA World Congress of Architects CPH 2023. Each Science Talk presents a current research topic that contributes to the many discussions among decision-makers\, practitioners\, and researchers. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhere:  BLOXHUB Arena or/ Online Participation\nSign up here 👇

SUMMARY:Building with Living Cells: Alliances between Food & Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Does engineering new building material from living cells with intelligent properties sound like science fiction? Or are we on the verge of a revolutionary approach to producing building material using fungi and bacteria – where the built environment draws inspiration and knowledge from the food industry – and vice versa? \nIn the future\, constructing material from living cells with intelligent properties for the construction industry could be a reality. Such a breakthrough could help to tackle the global climate crisis by providing the building industry and beyond with sustainable\, living materials – that will even be able to repair themselves. Achieving such a vision requires new alliances within research and across industries – and points towards a deepening of the relationship between the food industry\, where the use of living materials is common\, and architecture. \nSpeakers:\nPhil Ayres\, Professor of Biohybrid Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy. Ayres leads the EU-funded research project FUNGATERIA\, which is investigating engineered living materials (ELMs).\nSerafim Bakalis\, Professor of Dairy Technology at the Department of Food Science\, University of Copenhagen. He is leading AMUSE\, exploring the use of digital tools to predict the behavior of powders\nDennis Sandris Nielsen\, Professor in Microbiology and Fermentation at the Department of Food Science\, University of Copenhagen. He is heading the Novo Nordisk Foundation  Challenge Program “PROFERMENT – Solid-state fermentation for protein transformations and palatability of plant-based foods”. \nPlease sign up here:

SUMMARY:Open Call: What Is The Most Sustainable Building?
DESCRIPTION:What building is most sustainable? \nBloxhub and Nordkranen would like to identify and intend to pose this question for debate. How should we gauge and assess this? Should it be the house that has attained the highest score in DGNB\, or the one with the lowest LCA score\, or perhaps something else entirely? \nBloxhub and Nordkranen plan to invite various projects to illustrate and deliberate on this topic. These projects should encompass diverse facets of sustainability\, aiming to initiate a discussion about which elements can or should be quantified and evaluated. \nThis initiative would assemble a panel of experts\, the showcased projects\, and an audience\, allowing them to deliberate and offer concrete examples of what sustainability entails. The goal is to explore whether it holds significance to designate a building as the most sustainable\, fostering a meaningful dialogue. \nPlease submit your project and get a chance to show it in BLOXHUB Members Lounge. \nSubmission date: September 22\, 2023.  \n\nAn expert panel from business\, org.\, and academia will choose five projects based on the following:\n\nThe building that has achieved the highest score in DGNB.\nThe building with the lowest LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) score.\nThe building with the greatest potential for future recycling (dismantlable).\nThe most future-proof/flexible structure (most extended lifespan).\nThe building with the best focus on efficient space utilization. Energy/CO2 consumption per person rather than per square meter.\n\n\n\nThe five projects will be exhibited in the Bloxhub Members Lounge. The selected projects are not compensated for the cost of models\, prints\, etc. \nThe five projects will be revealed at an event on 26 October 20 23 at 14:00-16:00 in Arena\, Bloxhub. The event\, presentation\, and discussion will be moderated by the Chief of Innovation at BLOXHUB\, Ditte Lysgaard Vind. \nPlease submit project here:

SUMMARY:A Green Transition with Smart City Solutions
DESCRIPTION:LET’S JOIN FORCES IN SUPPORTING A GREEN TRANSITION WITH SMART CITY SOLUTIONS! \nSmart solutions are an inevitable part of creating sustainable environments. If we use data wisely\, we can move so much faster towards sustainability – push forward a green transition of cities and buildings and create awareness to engage citizens to act more sustainably. \nWe can create good stuff\, but if we join forces\, we might create magic ….. \nWE BUILD DENMARK intends to create a dynamic and informal interdisciplinary environment where clusters\, associated experts\, and stakeholders across borders collaborate\, exchange ideas and challenges\, and discuss best practices in innovation efforts. All to support a vision of creating sustainable and innovative solutions for our cities and communities. \nWe will start the journey by inviting you to a 24-hour workshop in Copenhagen. \nAt this join-forces workshop\, WE BUILD DENMARK wants to create a forum for sharing ambitions on innovative sustainable solutions\, bridge shared knowledge\, and organize cross-border networks to work together on possibilities and create solutions for faced challenges. \nThe workshop is an invitation to meet and engage in discussions on:\n– European collaboration on smart cities\n– Visions for smart solutions supporting a green transition in cities and buildings\n– Known challenges that we can address and push forward together. \nThis first workshop aims to identify a future collaborative cluster that\, through EU fundraising\, can work on cross-border smart city projects\, sharing experience and knowledge. \nThe network will decide on the themes to be discussed\, but we expect to take off in the EU mission for 100 Climate-neutral cities in 2030. However\, the program for the first meeting will include sessions for all to introduce ambitions and challenges. \nParticipants\nThe primary target group is representatives of smart city clusters in Norway\, Finland\, Sweden\, Ireland\, Germany\, the Netherlands\, and Denmark. When the primary group is formed\, a secondary target group can be involved: Representatives of internationally oriented companies\, universities\, and (GTS) institutes with the potential for major innovation collaborations.
