SUMMARY:Science Talk: How to Be an Imagination Activist
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk with systems thinker and biologist Phoebe Tickell as she explores how principles of living systems can influence a broad range of sectors\, including buildings\, business\, agriculture\, and societal structures. \nPhoebe Tickell is a renegade scientist\, systems thinker and social entrepreneur. She is the founder of the organisation Moral Imaginations and creator of an approach called Imagination Activism: a new kind of activism powered by imagination to create new possibilities and new forms of action. She believes that the vast majority of our challenges are not resource problems\, but imagination problems\, and that imagination is a muscle that can be flexed to change the way we see – and act. Moral Imaginations trains public\, private and community organisations to solve place-based problems\, unleash energy and systemic change. \nImagination Activism is a radical and rigorous approach to practise and strengthen shifts in perception\, move from dreams to action\, to create positive change and chart bold\, ambitious futures. It’s a new kind of activism powered by imagination to see the world differently and the skills to turn bold vision into action. Rather than fighting the old\, it orientates to the new. At the heart of Imagination Activism is Moral Imagination – the ability to look at things as if they could – and should – be otherwise. By changing the way we see the world\, we can create new possibilities and new actions that serve all people\, the planet\, and the coming future generations. \nThere will be time for Q&A at the end. \nPlease sign up for the talk via form here:

SUMMARY:Agency of Knowledge - Whose Spaces\, Whose Knowledges? Conversations about landscape\, architecture\, and urbanism
DESCRIPTION:This symposium brings together diverse perspectives—scientific\, practical\, artistic\, industrial\, and experimental—across both complementary and conflicting views. It emphasizes democratizing knowledge\, including forms often overlooked in academic and industrial settings. \nThe first session explores how knowledge creation intersects with power\, addressing issues like ownership\, bias\, inclusion\, and exclusion. Through discussions with experts in urban issues from NGOs\, arts\, and academia\, we examine how different types of knowledge are produced\, used\, and circulated. \nThe second session focuses on care\, maintenance\, and repair\, featuring voices from those who maintain landscapes\, buildings\, and cities. Through storytelling\, we explore how these actors engage with the material world and consider how knowledge is generated within institutions and organizations. \nOpen to researchers\, practitioners\, architects\, planners\, engineers\, and anyone with an interest in urbanism and urban research. \nPROGRAM \n9:30 COFFEE & REGISTRATION \n10:00 Welcome\nIntroducing DARE Symposium III / Carolina Dayer\, Aarhus School of Architecture\, and David Pinder\, Roskilde University. \n10:10 Knowledge Democracy: How do we bridge ‘classic’ critical urban research perspectives on knowledge and power to contemporary positions acknowledging diversity\, pluralism\, and  the non-human realm? / Ole B. Jensen\, Aalborg University. \nModerated panel session / Moderator: Bettina Lamm\, Copenhagen University. \nPanel conversation with participants from NGOs\, academia and arts practice / With Tora Balslev\, Daily Fiction\, Bo Heide Jochimsen\, Projekt Udenfor\, Rasmus Koustrup Larsen\, New Urban Voices\, Troels Schultz Larsen\, Roskilde University\, and Haya Termanini\, Building Diversity. \nPlenary debate involving the audience / Moderator: Anne Wagner\, Copenhagen University. \n12:10-13:00 LUNCH & NETWORKING \n13:00 Maintenance & Care: The assembly of diverse storytellers will tell about maintenance episodes\, their knowledge about and within their practices\, research and cause / Session organised and moderated by Carolina Dayer\, Aarhus School of Architecture\, Heidi Svenningsen Kajita\, Copenhagen University\, and Maja de Neergaard\, Roskilde University. \nShort presentations by panelists followed by conversations / Panelists: Ellen Braae\, Copenhagen University\, Beate Hemer\, The Royal Academy\, Mads Hobye\, Roskilde University\, Jesper Pagh\, Horsens Kommune\, Helle Hansen\, Almen Modstand\, Gellerup Toveshøj Bispehaven and Silje Sollien\, Independent Researcher. \n15:00 BREAK \n15:15 Reflecting and concretizing / Moderated by Henriette Steiner\, Copenhagen University. \nReflection exercise: ‘If I knew this\, how would I react to the knowledge I now have’ – reflect and write 1-2 sentences on ‘post-cards’ and share in plenum. \n15:50 End of symposium and next step / Thomas Bo Jensen\, Aarhus School of Architecture and Maja de Neergaard\, Roskilde University. \nFoto: Lina Bo Bardi’s Casa de Vidrio. SUMMARY:Doughnut Economics in the Built Environment - From Theory to Practice
DESCRIPTION:How can we design cities that not only thrive but also restore the planet? \nThis event series is specifically crafted for professionals who are committed to designing cities that prioritize both human and planetary sustainability. In an era where the pressure to build smarter and greener is increasing\, Doughnut Economics offers a framework to balance urban growth with environmental stewardship. \nWhy Doughnut Economics? \nDoughnut Economics\, developed by economist Kate Raworth\, is a groundbreaking model that envisions a world where economic development happens within the ecological limits of the planet while meeting the basic needs of all people. The model represents two concentric rings: the inner ring is the social foundation\, ensuring no one falls short on life’s essentials; the outer ring represents the ecological ceiling\, beyond which we cause irreversible environmental damage. \nThis framework is particularly important for the built environment\, where urban development often comes at the cost of the environment \nWho Should Attend? \n\nUrban planners and architects\nMunicipal and state agency professionals\nCity developers and policymakers\nSustainability experts in the built environment\n\nWhy Attend? \nIn this series of three interconnected workshops\, we will explore how to apply the principles of Doughnut Economics to urban development. Doughnut Economics challenges the outdated growth models that harm the planet\, offering a vision for cities that operate within environmental limits while ensuring a high quality of life. \nWhat to Expect \n\nPresentations from global pioneers who are integrating Doughnut Economics into their urban planning strategies.\nWorkshops designed to translate theory into actionable practices\, providing you with the tools to apply these concepts in your own projects.\nCollaborative Discussions on challenges and solutions to creating cities that embrace the green transition without compromising functionality or livability.\nNetworking with like-minded professionals who are shaping the future of sustainable urban design.\n\nWhat Will You Learn? \n\nBest practices from cities and companies already using Doughnut Economics to guide sustainable development.\nPractical tools for implementing these models in your own projects.\nInsights on how to move from theoretical frameworks to real-world applications\, creating cities that are regenerative and distributive by design.\n\nSign up for the workshops via form below:

This was the starting point for the Inner Development Goals (IDG) initiative. \nOver a number of years\, many different stakeholderes set out on a learning journey together. On 12th of May 2021 the IDG framework\, co-created by 1000+ scientists\, experts and HR & Sustainability professionals was made available open source for the world. \nThe Inner Development Goals is a not-for-profit and open-source initiative. SUMMARY:Roundtable: Sustainability Legislation – Obstacle or Value Creator?
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a deep-dive dialogue on how sustainability legislation influences sustainable development in the built environment. Does the legislation support good intentions—or could it become a roadblock? \nWe’ll put the legislation in the hot seat\, gathering representatives from across the built environment to debate its potential\, challenges\, and opportunities for collaboration. \nTwo expert speakers will kick off the discussion: \n\nBjarke Møller\, Director of the Council for Green Transition\, will provide an overview of the legislation’s impact on the building sector.\nFrederik Gade Lind\, Sustainability Consultant at Enemærke & Pedersen\, will share hands-on experiences with implementing the legislation in practice.\n\nSign-up here: Link \nFor more info\,  contact Ditte Deigaard\, program manager\, at dde@bloxhub.org.

SUMMARY:Provide or prevent? Exploring sufficiency imaginaries -Science talk with Line Kryger Aagaard
DESCRIPTION:The latest IPCC report highlights “sufficiency” as a crucial concept for sustainable transition\, yet it remains underexplored in the built environment. Sufficiency emphasizes well-being over continuous growth\, advocating for reduced production and consumption without sacrificing quality of life. \nIn this science talk\, postdoctoral researcher Line Kryger Aagaard will present her research on “sufficiency imaginaries\,” exploring how Danish professionals interpret and apply this concept in their work. Her insights reveal new possibilities for embedding sufficiency into professional practices\, reshaping sustainability approaches in architecture\, urban planning\, and beyond. Join us to discover how sufficiency can guide a more resilient\, sustainable future. \nPlease sign up via form here:

SUMMARY:Inner Development Goals Learning Lab: Relating
DESCRIPTION:The Inner Development Goals (IDG) offer a framework of five dimensions and 23 inner qualities to support sustainable development. BLOXHUB\, in collaboration with the IDG Copenhagen Leadership Development Hub\, invites you to join a series of learning labs. These sessions will allow you to delve into the Inner Development Goals and discover how to incorporate these inner qualities into your daily life and work. \nLearning Lab Schedule: \n\n14th November\, 16.00 – 18.00: Being\n3rd December\, 16.00 – 18.00: Thinking\n13th January\, 16.00 – 18.00: Relating\n4th February\, 16.00 – 18.00: Collaborating\n6th March\, 16.00 – 18.00: Acting\n\nThese learning labs\, co-hosted by BLOXHUB and the IDG Copenhagen Leadership Development Hub—a team of experienced professionals connecting inner and outer sustainability—offer a blend of inspirational insights\, practical exercises\, gamification\, dialogue\, and reflection. \nThe history behind the Inner Development Goals \nIn 2015\, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) gave us a comprehensive plan for a sustainable world by 2030. \nAlthough we have accumulated much knowledge about the climate crisis\, poverty\, public health\, and other social ills communicated in the SDGs\, we seem to lack the inner capacity to deal with our increasingly complex environment and challenges. \nWhat has been largely missing from current strategies is a keen insight into which abilities\, qualities or skills we need to develop among individuals\, groups and organisations that play crucial roles in working to fulfil the SDGs. \nFortunately\, modern research shows that the inner abilities we require to complement and accelerate our external approaches can be developed. The initiative is acknowledged by the UN as a substantial contribution to delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals and sustainable development more broadly.  (Source: Inner Development Goals) \nParticipation is free.  \nSign up here: Link
