SUMMARY:Inclusive Citizen Engagement in City Planning & Mobility Projects
DESCRIPTION:Together with Maptionaire we invite BLOXHUB members and stakeholders within the built environemnt to participate in our upcoming workshop\, “Inclusive Citizen Engagement in City Planning & Mobility Projects”. \nCity leaders and planners have a significant role to play in ensuring that the built environment promotes sustainable behaviors. Despite the best intentions\, urban development can however lead to conflicts with residents and users of the city. Therefore\, it is essential to find ways to effectively engage residents and users and turn them into allies. This workshop aims to explore ways to introduce citizen engagement into the planning process and provide meaningful opportunities for participation. \nThrough case studies from the City of Copenhagen and Viborg Municipality\, we will examine citizen engagement from four di erent perspectives: \n\nDigital involvement\nDiversity and equity\nEnvironment and sustainability\, and\nEconomic development.\n\nOur goal is to create guidelines for inclusive citizen engagement in the early stages of the planning process. \nThe workshop will feature inspirational talks by Dansk Byplanlaboratorium and Aase Højlund Nielsen\, Project Manager at DESIRE – New European Bauhaus\, group discussions\, and co-creation sessions. We hope to create a platform for sharing experiences and ideas for building inclusive and sustainable cities\, and we believe that your knowledge and experience will be valuable contributions to the discussion. \nIf you would like to participate or need additional information\, please do not hesitate to contact Program Director at BLOXHUB\, Lotte C. Breengaard\, at +45 2268 4643 or lcb@bloxhub.org. \nPlease RSVP by Friday\, May 26th.

SUMMARY:UN17 Village – Designing With Biodiversity in Mind: Science Talk with Tobias Theil Konishi
DESCRIPTION:UN17 Village – Designing With Biodiversity in Mind \nTalk by Tobias Theil Konishi\, Project Director\, Architect MAA \nThe UN’s 17 Global Goals emphasize the need to safeguard the biosphere as the foundation for sustaining a healthy environment for all life. However\, building new developments will unavoidably cause harm to the biosphere\, both locally and globally\, due to the use of natural resources in construction materials. \nBased on his extensive experience with projects designed to minimize the loss of biodiversity\, Tobias shares his insights as a partner and advisor for the design of the outdoor spaces for the UN 17 Village development project in Ørestaden in Copenhagen. During the early development of the project\, SLA design studio worked on design solutions\, where addressing the loss of biodiversity was the main design factor. \nDuring this talk Tobias will share his insights about the design process and the lessons learned. He will also delve into modern designers’ challenges when designing with biodiversity in mind and offers practical solutions to overcome them. \nThe UN 17 Village is the World’s first construction project that addresses and incorporates the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals in a comprehensive solution. \nBio – short background: \nTobias Konishi is a Project Director at SLA\, leading a team of landscape architects\, architects\, and biologists. He specializes in identifying the potentials and challenges of a site and utilizing them to create a new innovative design. \nTobias has been involved in some of SLA’s most prestigious projects\, including Gellerup New Nature Park in Aarhus\, Amager Bakke Rooftop Park\, a biodiverse asset on top of a waste-to-energy plant\, and Søndre Havn – Køge Kyst\,  a new climate resilient neighborhood on a former industrial site in Køge. \nSLA is an internationally renowned nature-based design studio. \n__ \nThis talk is a part of Science Taks hosted by BLOXHUB & UIA World Congress of Architects CPH 2023. It is the 4th Science Talk in a series of nine given the title `Leave No One and Nothing Behind´. The series wishes to find solutions on how we reach a future\, where we leave no one and nothing behind. In fact\, a future where we leave more behind than we take. BLOXHUB would like to invite you to participate and engage with the researcher. \nSign up here:

SUMMARY:How do we strengthen the knowledge flow between the projecting part and contractors?
DESCRIPTION:Are you an engineer\, architect\, electrician or plumber\, and have you experienced challenges in handing over or receiving knowledge and information in connection with construction projects? Then join the workshop `How do we strengthen the knowledge flow between the projecting part and contractors?’. \nIn a research from 2018 about 850 technical inquiries in three different projects\, it was shown that a large number of request upon Detailed Project Reports (in Danish: TF\, entreprenørens anmodning om projektafklaring) were centered about the same topics. This proves the insufficient feedback loop in the industry\, which is providing to project failures and the ongoing deficiency from project to project. \nThe building industry has for many years tried to identify different ways to improve knowledge sharing and to reduce repetitions of failures and deficiencies in projects. In this workshop\, we will jointly learn more about\, which information needs that apply\, which challenges the actors have in handing over the knowledge to each other\, as well as finding the right tools to remedy the challenges and thus reduce project corrections\, time schedules and budget overruns. The workshop is a part of largescale project\, that aims to develop a tool that can facilitate collaboration and strengthen the knowledge flow between the projecting part and contractors. \nThe day is organized by ConTech Lab\, Værdigbyg and BLOXHUB as a facilitated process with a combination of group exercise/-discussions and inspirational presentations. \nIf you would like to participate please reach out to Program Director at BLOXHUB Lotte C. Breengaard; +45 2268 4643 / lcb@bloxhub.org.

SUMMARY:Urban Seascaping: Science Talk with Soo Jung Ryu
DESCRIPTION:BLOXHUB & UIA World Congress of Architects CPH 2023 invite you to join our 3rd Science Talk in a series of nine given the title `Leave No One and Nothing Behind´. In each talk\, we will dive into how we can reach a future\, where we leave no one and nothing behind. In fact\, a future where we leave more behind than we take. But how? \nOn April 20 we will be joined by Soo Jung Ryu. Soo is a Ph.D. fellow at the Aarhus School of Architecture. Her research project focuses on developing a new concept called “Urban Seascaping”\, which explores how coastal cities in Denmark need to live not just by the sea but with the sea. This entails looking further into the potential of marine nature\, such as seaweed\, as a key player in transforming the current hard-edge borders between the city and the sea to a soft and dynamic zone in light of sea level rise. Seaweed is an unexplored marine nature in Denmark that has numerous benefits\, such as filtering the water\, reducing the strength of storm surges\, creating habitats for marine life\, and capturing carbon. Therefore\, Urban Seascaping with seaweed will be the point of departure to induce transdisciplinary discussion about re-thinking\, re-integrating\, and re-envisioning the sea and its lifeforms into coastal cities in the Anthropocene. \nWhere: Online / BLOXHUB Arena\nSign up now 👇 \nThe UIA World Congress of Architects CPH 2023 is the world’s largest event on Sustainable Architecture. The World Congress is held every three years in different countries and will be hosted in 2023 for the first time in Copenhagen. \n______ \nWith Science Talks\, BLOXHUB invites you to participate and engage with researchers. Each Science Talk presents a current research topic that contributes to the many discussions amongst decision-makers\, practitioners\, and researchers. In other words\, Science Talks are IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE ON TRENDING TOPICS – ON DEMAND. \nSign up here:

SUMMARY:Overcoming the barriers related to the use of biobased materials in construction
DESCRIPTION:In Denmark\, building materials are estimated to account for 50-80 percent of the total climate impact of a new building\, and as a result\, there is an increased focus on the climate footprint of the materials used. We see an increasing awareness of the possibilities of using biobased materials in construction. Using wood\, hemp\, straw\, etc. with much lower CO2 emissions than materials such as concrete and steel\, holds great potential for reducing the climate footprint. Despite the advantages of using bio-based materials\, they are nevertheless often displaced by conventional ones in public and private tenders. Next to the many possibilities\, there are also several barriers to the increased use of bio-based building materials and thus the construction industry’s ability to accelerate a sustainable transition. Together with Structured Environment\, we invite you to join us for a discussion on how these materials can be integrated into construction projects seen from four different perspectives: \n\nRisk handling when designing with biobased materials where there is a lack of previous references.\nThe tendency to choose “as usual”.\nDissemination and implementation of knowledge to the entire value chain.\nThe revival of historical biobased materials and building practice.\n\nThe workshop will be a facilitated process with a mix of interdisciplinary group discussions\, co-creation sessions\, and inspirational talks by Simon Rosenvold Hvidt\, Project Manager\, Slots- og Kulturstyrelsen\, who will talk about how to use methods and materials from the past in today’s construction – Xan Browne\, Ph.D. Fellow\, KADK – Institute of Architecture and Technology will introduce us to his research regarding a circular approach to timber construction – Alexander Mollan Bohn Christiansen\, Consultant\, Dansk Standard\, will talk about how DS works with requirements regarding bio-based building materials\, and Walter Unterrainer\, Professor\, Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering\, Chalmers University of Technology will give a talk about biobased materials from an educational perspective. \nWorkshop participants consist of a wide range of stakeholders within the built environment to ensure a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to the subject. \nIf you would like to participate please reach out to Program Director at BLOXHUB Lotte C. Breengaard; +45 2268 4643 / lcb@bloxhub.org.

SUMMARY:Biophilic Design - From Research to Practice
DESCRIPTION:Together with NJORD\, BLOXHUB invites you to a workshop on biophilic design – a method\, whose fundamental aim is to create good habitats by promoting connectivity between humans and our natural environment. Biophilic design can thus be an effective intervention to improve our health. \nBut how do we translate the available evidence-based research into urban designs that actually work? The effectiveness of biophilic design depends on interventions that are connected\, complementary\, and integrated into the built environment rather than isolated or transient interventions. \nAt the workshop\, we will work on identifying measures for a more holistic adaptation of the biophilic method in our buildings and cities and discuss what measures are needed to create a symbiosis between it available knowledge/research and our urban design solutions. \nPlease contact BLOXHUB Program Director Lotte C. Breengaard for further information on how to apply: +45 2268 4643 / lcb@bloxhub.org \n_____ \nNB: The workshop is in Danish

SUMMARY:Can Public Tenders contribute to promoting Diversity and Creativity in Construction?
DESCRIPTION:Together with Arkitektforeningen we invite stakeholders from across the construction industry to join us for a discussion about which framework strengthens innovation\, the quality of the built environment\, and the client’s need for risk management. We will take a deep dive into the following questions: \nHow is the process between politicians\, developers\, and architects simplified and expectations aligned? \nHow should competence requirements be set out in the tender material to ensure architectural quality\, diversity\, and innovation? \nWhat assessment criteria can be established to judge architectural quality and creativity? \nHow do we get better at handling risk in practice\, and what could this mean for the tender framework and the conditions? \nHow to promote collaboration\, trust-building\, and a more iterative process between provider and bidder in the tender framework? \n___ \nPlease contact BLOXHUB Program Director Lotte C. SUMMARY:DARE Symposium: Entangled Scales: Urban & Rural Interaction
DESCRIPTION:Danish Network for Architecture and Urbanism Research – DARE invites to a research symposium\nENTANGLED SCALES: URBAN & RURAL INTERACTION \nOBJECTIVES:\nClimate change and the biodiversity crisis call for a new and far more comprehensive understanding of scales that operate in entangled correlations\, rather than isolated enclaves. The ”ENTANGLED SCALES – Urban and Rural Interaction” Symposium focuses on overlapping scales and deep landscape structures as a background for fundamental research in Denmark’s future architectural development. To plan and build as an inter-connected organism\, from the open landscape over hinterlands\, suburbs and cities\, and down to the single building and detail\, rather than randomly planned\, disconnected units\, is the core research question of this symposium. \nThe objective of the symposium is to not only share our current research projects within aspects of entangled scales\, but also to identify potential research collaborations and potentially\, to identify a joint research project that can work across and connect all scales of the built environment. \nThe format will be participatory with 2X2 presentations that will set the scene for debates at the tables with feed-back in plenum. There will be participation both from academia and companies giving the opportunity for networking and discussions covering many aspects of the theme. \nThis is the first symposium out of three exploratory forums for contemporary research in architecture\, urban design and landscape planning. The next symposium will be in Autumn 2023: “BUILDING AS AN ORGANISM” and August 2024: “THE POWER OF KNOWLEDGE: RIGHTS TO DEFINE FUTURES” \nSIGN UP: Please send an e-mail to Pernille Berg\, Science Director at BLOXHUB: pbe@bloxhub.org \n______ \nPROGRAM:\n9.30 Coffee & registration \n10.00 Welcome by Hans Jørgen Andersen and Thomas Bo Jensen \n10.10 – 12.00 CONTINUUM \n\nTom Nielsen\, Professor at Aarhus School of Architecture talks about his new book ”BYEN DANMARK”\, in which he reads\nDenmark as one big coherent city.\nJonna Majgaard Krarup from Royal Danish Academy talks about rural landscapes: lessons to be learnt?\nShort break\nIdentifying potential collaboration in groups \n\n12.15-13.00 Lunch \n13.00 – 15.00 WATER \n\nIda Sofie Gøtzsche Lange\, Aalborg University talks about the lives of small Danish commercial harbours and their influence on the rural landscape\nKatrina Wiberg\, Aarhus School of Architecture talks about ”The Missing Link” a methodology to read the deep patterns of the landscapes\,\nwhich dwells under our cities\, and to deal with the transformation of our landscapes and cities with water as a guide.\nShort break\nIdentifying potential collaboration in groups \n\n15.00 Plenum Discussion  \n\nHow is research applied and which role does architectural research play in the topic of climate change? Can we glimpse a common game changing research project between our institutions?

SUMMARY:From Yellow Cornfields to Green Megawatts
DESCRIPTION:Planning Challenges in connection with Solar Energy \nDenmark is facing a green energy revolution that will radically change our use of land. It is one of the biggest planning challenges in recent times and it is urgent to find space for efficient and renewable energy facilities. But if Denmark is to become a beautiful\, green power plant\, we must find new and smarter ways to manage our land. Cause smart land management and happy coexistence with new energy-producing landscapes require other considerations than just space\, profitability\, and low operating costs. \nBased on selected cases workshop participants will work on formulating an overall vision and a series of ideas and instructions based on two different tracks: \n\nThe planning track: How can overall energy planning for a municipality look like? What aesthetic and landscape considerations\, legal bindings and other considerations must and can form the basis of long-term and robust physical planning?\nThe partnership track: What common vision and what common goals can be set? Which partnerships must be entered that enable an alternative placement of future solar parks?\n\nThe workshop is organized by BLOXHUB in collaboration with Schønherr Landscape Architects as a facilitated process with the participation of a wide circle of public and private stakeholders to ensure that the ideas are developed in the intersection between the greatest possible interdisciplinary and different interests. \nAs a participant\, you will actively participate in group exercises and discussions\, work with specific cases and get inspiration from selected speakers. \nWould you like to join? Please reach out to Program Director in BLOXHUB Lotte C. Breengaard for further information about the workshop and how to register: lcb@bloxhub.org / +45 2268 4643 \n___\nNB The workshop will be facilitated in Danish only \n

SUMMARY:Sustainable Renovation & Facility Management in Sweden & Denmark
DESCRIPTION:Together with WE BUILD DENMARK\, The Danish Embassy in Stockholm\, and PropTech Denmark\, BLOXHUB would like to invite you to a workshop on sustainable renovation and facility management. \nWe will welcome a Swedish delegation of decision-makers from Helsingborgs-Hem\, Riksbyggen\, Örebro Bostäder\, Stena Fastigheter\, and Familjebostäder Stockholm\, who are here on a two-day trip to discuss energy renovation and  sustainable facility management of affordable housing buildings and take a deep dive into the challenge of: \nHow can we sustainably renovate and manage affordable housing facilities and deliver on housing quality\, climate goals\, energy requirements\, and economic budgets? \nCutting-edge technology solutions with a documented high impact on reducing CO2 emission are often expensive with a long RoI perspective. Consequently\, these solutions often fall due to budget restraints. An important challenge in securing the most effective energy renovation of buildings is therefore to develop new financing mechanisms and contract models\, which can increase the incentives for investing in the most CO2-reducing technologies. \nThe workshop will be a facilitated process with a mix of inspirational talks\, interdisciplinary group discussions\, and co-creation sessions. \nWould you like to join? Please reach out to Program Manager at BLOXHUB Torben Krab for further information about the workshop and how to register: +45 51624031 / tkr@bloxhub.org \n
