SUMMARY:BLOXHUB SUMMER SCHOOL ON LIVEABLE CITIES
DESCRIPTION:In cooperation with Roskilde University (RUC) we are proud to present this summer school on liveable cities. \nCities have become the sites of both the world’s major problems and major possibilities. Consequently\, liveability has become a leitmotiv of urban development\, and it must be questioned what makes a city liveable\, for who and what\, and how in practice and theory? \nThe course introduces different critical perspectives on what makes cities ‘liveable’ and through various themes\, we explore specific efforts to improve urban conditions as well as layout the challenges involved. The course is organized around cases from cities around the world and especially Copenhagen and its surrounding lands. Particular interest is given to Copenhagen because it is a site through which ideas and practices of liveable urban living are being explored\, promoted and contested. What to learn from these actions and lessons? \nUnfolding liveable cities is about the ability to integrate social\, cultural and environmental dimensions. Key to this integration is to investigate and experiment with the diversity of cities and the processes through which life unfolds and cities take shape. Through research-based perspectives and a strong collaboration with local planners and practitioners\, you will learn not only from multiple perspectives\, but also work with real-life challenges experienced by various urban agents.

SUMMARY:OPEN FUNDING FOR STARTUPS AND SMES DEVELOPING ROBOTICS SOLUTIONS
DESCRIPTION:We\, at Blue Ocean Robotics\, are part of the EU-funded project ESMERA (European SMEs Robotics Applications)\, a starting block for European SMEs and startups designing and developing robotic solutions. We have some real user-driven challenges that are waiting to be solved\, and which we will present during our event at BloxHub. Through this project\, we offer up to  200.000 financial support to further develop solutions! Within the current open call\, industrial end-users have defined specific challenges that are to be solved by introducing a robotics solution. European SMEs and Start-Ups can now apply to solve one or more of these challenges. They derive from the following areas: Manufacturing\, Energy\, Construction\, Agri-Food\, Retail\, Healthcare and Emergency Response. Even if you are not directly involved in the robotics industry\, but have a solution which could be combined and / or applied on a robotic solution\, there is the possibility to apply for the call. Thus\, through this presentation\, we aim to explain the funding opportunities\, and how interested attendees can get access to this funding.

SUMMARY:CLOSING THE LOOP ON CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS
DESCRIPTION:Science Forum presents ‘Closing the Loop on Circular Business Models’ at BLOXHUB Arena on Friday 25th October from 1600-1800 \nThere is a pressing need to reimagine our cities and buildings as ecosystems defined by closed-loop systems of energy\, materials\, nature and water. To do this we need to change practice through business\, and make sense of circular economies through real life examples\, asking: \nHow might digital tools transform the nature of circular design?\nHow can a deep understanding of natural boundaries inform policy?\nHow can engagement with actors from the entire supply chain support circular futures? \nCome and hear our fantastic speakers discuss their unique experiences and knowledge in the field of circularity. \n\nDitte Lysgaard Vind\, Managing Partner at Lendager TCW\nMaja Johannessen from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation\nLara Anne Hale PhD\, Assistant Professor and Post Doctoral researcher at Velux / Copenhagen Business School\n\nShort presentations and panel debate\, moderated by Kasper Guldager Jensen\, founder of GXN Innovation. \nSign up for the event here: https://billetto.dk/en/e/closing-the-loop-on-circular-business-models-tickets-387096 \nOrganized by: GXN Innovation

For instance\, the recent EU Waste Directive requires the EU Member States to set up schemes by 2025 to ensure textiles are collected as a separate waste stream. Local municipalities will play a pertinent role in this\, as they will largely be responsible for executing the implementation of the schemes. \nTo help local municipalities prepare\, this event will be action-oriented and divided into two sessions. The first session will present existing best practice cases from cities and fashion\, who will share their experience in launching schemes for clothing and footwear collection\, sorting\, reuse and recycling – for local municipalities to benchmark from. The second session will invite all participants to engage in facilitated discussions around what local challenges cities are facing and what the solutions may look like. \nOrganizer: Global Fashion Agenda \nMore info: https://www.liveliketomorrow.dk/events/cf/

SUMMARY:ADDING AIR QUALITY TO CITY PLANNING – DESIGNING THRIVE ZONES FOR THE YOUNGEST CITY RESIDENTS
DESCRIPTION:Together with Gehl Architects and Bernard van Leer Foundation\, the City of Copenhagen tie Air quality data to urban experiences of children under 5. The collaboration aims to create a long-term vision for a healthy public realm with pilot projects that can be brought to life in the short-term. \nWe know urban design influences the ways we live. This effort augments data on hyperlocal air quality measurements from the Airview collaboration between Google and the City of Copenhagen with public life data from Gehl. The goal is to provide practitioners\, urban planners and decision-makers with tools in the form of fact-based design codes for healthy urban environments. The first step of the project has focused on how to establish a clean air network in districts to invite children and their caretakers into areas with better air quality. \nAt this event\, we will present the ideas and preliminary work in the project. The aim is to get a constructive dialogue and feedback. \nSign up is free of charge – first come first served: https://billetto.dk/e/adding-air-quality-to-city-planning-designing-thrive-zones-for-the-youngest-city-residents-billetter-387637/

SUMMARY:THE ROLE OF URBAN FOOD SYSTEMS IN A CHANGING CLIMATE
DESCRIPTION:The Role of Urban Food Systems in a Changing Climate \nFormat: Workshop (Interactive Talks) \nFood production is responsible for nearly 27% of greenhouse gas emission globally. Thus\, it is necessary to delve into the possible roles of urban food systems as a means of decreasing the food imprint of our cities on the planet. During this event\, we assess the approaches that citizens can take in order to fix our broken food systems through reshaping demand and influence bigger shifts on the production side. \nBy 2050\, we will have 2.5 billion more people living in urban areas and they need fresh\, safe and nutritious food. Let’s come together in Copenhagen to show that climate action can be a way of life: a way of innovating\, a way of designing\, a way of planning\, and a way of thriving. \nLet’s explore our responsibilities together.  \nOrganizer: Association for Vertical Farming \nMore info: https://www.liveliketomorrow.dk/events/verticalfarming/

SUMMARY:SHARED LIVING AND THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
DESCRIPTION:Part of ‘Live Like Tomorrow’ at C40 World Mayors Summit\, Copenhagen 2019. \nFormat: Statements and debate \nIn Denmark\, we are experiencing a great demand for new ways of living together. Senior housing communities\, cross-generational communities\, family communities are being built and new inclusive housing types are created\, where students and refugees\, for example\, live together. \nThis demand is driven both by a desire for a good life in a well-functioning community and by a desire to live resource-conscious by sharing space and things rather than owning a private home. Shared Living\, as such\, is a great bid for how we can live like tomorrow with a higher quality of life and lower climate footprint. \n“Shared Living and the Sustainable City” brings together Danish and international players to discuss the role of new community-oriented housing forms in the sustainable city of the future. \nOrganizers: PensionDanmark in collaboration with Realdania. \nMore info: https://www.liveliketomorrow.dk/events/pension/

SUMMARY:DIVERSITY IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY OF TOMORROW
DESCRIPTION:Part of ‘Live Like Tomorrow’ at C40 World Mayors Summit\, Copenhagen 2019. \nFormat: Panel discussion \nWhile the need for “green transitions” has gained widespread acceptance\, the social dilemmas of such a process are also becoming increasingly clear: one person’s sustainability may be another person’s inequality. Indeed\, recent years have shown that well-meaning climate initiatives may have unintended consequences: Green technologies and services are often unequally distributed among populations\, and CO2-taxations risk burdening those who have the least. \nAs the recent Yellow Vest uprising in France—and\, on a smaller scale\, the resistance against offshore windmills in Denmark— have shown\, taking account of how climate initiates may be met with public resistance will be a critical element in the successful sustainable transition. For how will it be possible to lower the consumption of meat\, reduce air flights\, without\, for instance\, excluding certain demographic groups? \nDeparting in scenarios of future climate initiatives\, presented by anthropology students from the University of Copenhagen\, this panel will discuss how to ensure that urban climate responses across the globe fosters a transition which benefits all and not only the privileged. \nOrganizer: University of Copenhagen & Center for Sustainability and Society  \nMore info: https://www.liveliketomorrow.dk/events/diversityinthesustaiable/

SUMMARY:COLLECTIVE ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOUR
DESCRIPTION:Collective Environmental Behaviour (Quentin Gausset\, University of Copenhagen). Part of ‘Live Like Tomorrow’ at C40 World Mayors Summit\, Copenhagen 2019.  \nFormat: Presentation and workshop \nPreliminary research results show that the carbon footprint of people living in eco-communities is 40% below the Danish average. This is achieved through 1) collective green identity\, 2) knowledge sharing\, 3) social and physical infrastructures\, and 4) everyday interactions with local governments that push the limits of local rules and regulations. Although the collective aspects of environmental behaviour are key to a fast sustainable transition\, these aspects are currently widely ignored or overseen by policymakers. \nParticipants in this workshop will discuss how to create or promote local environmental communities. Based on concrete examples from their own city\, participants will discuss how they can join forces with existing environmental communities\, or how existing social groups (based on sports\, housing\, schooling\, working\, trading) can be made “greener” and become future allies for a sustainable transition. \nOrganizer: University of Copenhagen  \nMore info: https://www.liveliketomorrow.dk/events/collective-environmental-behaviour/

SUMMARY:MASTER CLASS – CITY INDUSTRY DIALOGUE FOR CLEAN & HEALTHY CONSTRUCTION
DESCRIPTION:Part of ‘Live Like Tomorrow’ at C40 World Mayors Summit\, Copenhagen 2019.  \nFormat: The session on Clean Construction will be structured around a master class in the morning and a market dialogue in the afternoon. There will be a mix of presentations and structured dialogue between private and public actors in the construction area. \nThe expected growth of the urban population will drastically exacerbate the need for buildings and infrastructure in cities\, already contributing close to 40% of global emissions. In a climate crisis context\, cities can and will work to reduce these emissions through strategies including public procurement\, policy\, planning and building controls. They will do it better and faster in collaboration with the industry. \nThis session seeks to inspire and spark a dialogue between professionals and cities’ representatives to raise the bar for professional procurement within construction. The master class will introduce a holistic approach to emissions in buildings and present existing clean construction cases\, then discuss pathways for change and alternatives to cut construction emissions and air pollution. The market dialogue will focus on construction materials and machinery\, with an emphasis on cities’ needs and how the market can respond to them. \nNote that in the afternoon (13:00-17:00) a market dialogue between cities and industry will be hosted at another venue. This market dialogue will focus on the transition to emission-free materials and machinery used in construction. You can sign up for the marked dialogue here. \nMore info: https://www.liveliketomorrow.dk/events/city-industry-dialogue-for-clean-healthy-construction/ \nOrganized by: C40\, Gate21\, Innovation Norway\, & EIT Climate-KIC

SUMMARY:DRIVERLESS TRANSPORTATION: NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR CITIES?
DESCRIPTION:Part of ‘Live Like Tomorrow’ at C40 World Mayors Summit\, Copenhagen 2019.  \nFormat: Open masterclass \nSelf-driving vehicles won’t just change the way we get around; they can turn streets into living space. But technology won’t do it alone. A new Oslo study on a future with full implementation of autonomous cars shows remarkable results: If we manage to share cars and make public transit more attractive with driverless shuttles\, we can reduce the number of cars dramatically and move towards more sustainable mobility in our cities. \nCOWI and Gate21 invite you to an open masterclass where key findings from the Oslo study are presented together with a Danish project on how driverless shuttles can be integrated into city development and connected to the coming light rail in Greater Copenhagen – and hence become a driver for a major urban transformation. Together\, we will debate how autonomous vehicles will influence the urban fabric of our cities and discuss opportunities and risks. \nOrganizers: COWI + Gate 21 \nMore info: https://www.liveliketomorrow.dk/events/cowigate21/
