SUMMARY:Share the Risk: Circular Solutions in Municipal Projects
DESCRIPTION:How do we create business models that support risk sharing for circular solutions in municipal projects? \nOver the past decade\, Sweden and Denmark have been at the forefront of circular innovation in construction. It’s time to translate these innovative solutions into practical\, commercially viable models to reshape the industry and drive sustainable change. \nThe Danish Embassies in The Danish Embassies in the Nordics\, BLOXHUB\, Danske Ark\, Göteborg stad\, Københavns Kommune\, Malmö stad\, Stockholm stad\, and WE BUILD DENMARK invite you to the second workshop of the Nordic Forum for Circular Solutions. This time\, the focus is on risk-sharing within municipal circular projects. \nIf you are ready to join the dynamic movement propelling the Nordic region towards a more circular and sustainable future\, please get in touch with Program Director Lotte Breengaard at: lcb@bloxhub.org

SUMMARY:Living Places: Reducing Environmental Impact and Improving Human Health
DESCRIPTION:Is change possible for the building industry right now? This talk argues that we can\, in fact\, achieve 3x lower carbon footprint emissions and 3x better indoor climate than in an average Danish single-family house by applying existing knowledge and five basic key principles. The speakers will present these key principles that can be applied to any home\, community\, or city designed to create scalable\, affordable\, and commercially viable homes. \nJoin us for an introduction to the knowledge behind ‘Living Places’ – an approach developed by Velux to inspire and prove that changing our common living places is indeed possible right now. \nThe speakers are: \nLone Feifer\, Director for Sustainable Buildings at Velux\, and Ph.D supervisor for: \nNicole Di Santo\, Ph.D Scholar\, Politecnico di Milano – ABC Department. She is currently concluding her research titled “φsense — Phygital and Cognitive Paradigm for active house In-Use Rating. \nSeda KAÇEL (Ph.D. Scholar March MSc BArch MSLL) Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) in Belgium. KAÇEL is working on the research project ‘SHAPE: Smartness\, Health Assessment\, and Performance Evaluation.’ \n___ \nWhere: BLOXHUB Arena /online participation. \nSign up here:\n \n  \nThis talk is part of our Science Talks Series 2023 – Leave No One Behind\, a partnership between BLOXHUB & UIA World Congress of Architects CPH 2023

SUMMARY:On the Way to Net-Zero - Climate Neutrality through Innovation in Small & Medium-Sized Cities
DESCRIPTION:As part of our collective responsibility to combat climate change\, small and medium-sized cities play a crucial role. Therefore\, it is essential to establish and strengthen relationships and knowledge exchange within local innovation ecosystems to enhance our capacity for planning\, implementing\, and scaling net-zero solutions. \nThe project ‘SMC NetZero’ is an ambitious initiative designed to support this transformation by providing tools and guidelines that can assist small and medium-sized cities in reducing their carbon footprint through decarbonization. \nIn the project’s first phase\, a market analysis was conducted\, with contributions from cities and businesses. The results have now been analyzed\, and we would like to share them with you in an online workshop. In addition to the conclusions\, the workshop will explore some exciting examples that can support the implementation of net-zero solutions. \nThe workshop lasts 1.5 hours\, and it is possible to participate either on 11 Sep. at 13:30-15:00 or 14 Sep. at 14:30-16:00. \nAgenda \n\nWelcome and Project Introduction\nPresentation of Market Analysis Results: Best Practices\, Priorities\, Barriers\, Drivers\, and Success Factors\nCase Presentations\nValidating Market Analysis Conclusions\nQuestions and Discussion\nSummary and Thank You for Today\n\nPlease contact Lotte C. Breengaard\, Program Director at BLOXHUB\, for further information and registration: +45 2268 4643 / lcb@bloxhub.org \n________ \nSMC NetZero is funded by the European Union\, and the partnership consists of BABLE Smart Cities\, ODRAZ\, We Build Denmark / DOLL\, Southern Regional Assembly of Ireland\, Smart City Cluster\, UrbanDNA\, and BLOXHUB.

SUMMARY:Building with Living Cells: Alliances between Food & Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Does engineering new building material from living cells with intelligent properties sound like science fiction? Or are we on the verge of a revolutionary approach to producing building material using fungi and bacteria – where the built environment draws inspiration and knowledge from the food industry – and vice versa? \nIn the future\, constructing material from living cells with intelligent properties for the construction industry could be a reality. Such a breakthrough could help to tackle the global climate crisis by providing the building industry and beyond with sustainable\, living materials – that will even be able to repair themselves. Achieving such a vision requires new alliances within research and across industries – and points towards a deepening of the relationship between the food industry\, where the use of living materials is common\, and architecture. \nSpeakers:\nPhil Ayres\, Professor of Biohybrid Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy. Ayres leads the EU-funded research project FUNGATERIA\, which is investigating engineered living materials (ELMs).\nSerafim Bakalis\, Professor of Dairy Technology at the Department of Food Science\, University of Copenhagen. He is leading AMUSE\, exploring the use of digital tools to predict the behavior of powders\nDennis Sandris Nielsen\, Professor in Microbiology and Fermentation at the Department of Food Science\, University of Copenhagen. He is heading the Novo Nordisk Foundation  Challenge Program “PROFERMENT – Solid-state fermentation for protein transformations and palatability of plant-based foods”. \nPlease sign up here:

SUMMARY:Open Call: What Is The Most Sustainable Building?
DESCRIPTION:What building is most sustainable? \nBloxhub and Nordkranen would like to identify and intend to pose this question for debate. How should we gauge and assess this? Should it be the house that has attained the highest score in DGNB\, or the one with the lowest LCA score\, or perhaps something else entirely? \nBloxhub and Nordkranen plan to invite various projects to illustrate and deliberate on this topic. These projects should encompass diverse facets of sustainability\, aiming to initiate a discussion about which elements can or should be quantified and evaluated. \nThis initiative would assemble a panel of experts\, the showcased projects\, and an audience\, allowing them to deliberate and offer concrete examples of what sustainability entails. The goal is to explore whether it holds significance to designate a building as the most sustainable\, fostering a meaningful dialogue. \nPlease submit your project and get a chance to show it in BLOXHUB Members Lounge. \nSubmission date: September 22\, 2023.  \n\nAn expert panel from business\, org.\, and academia will choose five projects based on the following:\n\nThe building that has achieved the highest score in DGNB.\nThe building with the lowest LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) score.\nThe building with the greatest potential for future recycling (dismantlable).\nThe most future-proof/flexible structure (most extended lifespan).\nThe building with the best focus on efficient space utilization. Energy/CO2 consumption per person rather than per square meter.\n\n\n\nThe five projects will be exhibited in the Bloxhub Members Lounge. The selected projects are not compensated for the cost of models\, prints\, etc. \nThe five projects will be revealed at an event on 26 October 20 23 at 14:00-16:00 in Arena\, Bloxhub. The event\, presentation\, and discussion will be moderated by the Chief of Innovation at BLOXHUB\, Ditte Lysgaard Vind. \nPlease submit project here:
