Challenge
At the moment, manhole covers do not contain level meters, which could be used to prevent flooding and damage in the sewage systems made from hydrogen sulfide. Historically, manhole covers have been made of cast iron, but it is not possible to send a signal through a cast iron cover.

Innovation
The converging of different fields – manhole covers, sensors, meters, IoT, and so forth – has never been seen before, since it hasn’t been possible. This creates the potential to alter the management of water and sewage systems radically.

Solution
A ”smart manhole cover”; a composite cover that can measure the level and flow of water in sewage wells, levels of hydrogen sulfide, and detect who opens the wiring.

Impact
Water level measurement can directly counteract flooding of urban and rural areas and save cities money by making it possible for suppliers to act proactively when the water rises, and hydrogen sulfide is formed.
