On 1 January, 2025, BLOXHUB officially acquired European Green Cities (EGC), bringing together two organizations with shared expertise in sustainable urban development. This partnership aims to accelerate efforts in creating carbon-neutral cities across Europe.

Strengthening Urban Innovation in Europe

The acquisition enhances BLOXHUB’s position as a key player in sustainable urban development. By combining resources, BLOXHUB and EGC will increase their capacity to address climate challenges, expand international networks, and support innovative EU-level projects.

“This is a natural step in our international efforts to develop solutions that transcend sectors and borders,” says Torben Klitgaard, CEO of BLOXHUB. “Together, we can deliver even greater opportunities for our members, including access to new knowledge, partnerships, and business potential.”

The collaboration builds on BLOXHUB’s participation in the EU Green Deal project Desire  – New European Bauhaus and incorporates EGC’s extensive experience in European sustainability initiatives.

Building on Proven Success in Sustainability

For over a decade, EGC has focused on developing carbon-neutral cities through primarily EU-funded projects. As a nonprofit, it has made meaningful contributions to reducing the impact of climate change.

“I am proud of the work we’ve accomplished at European Green Cities and confident that our vision will thrive under BLOXHUB’s leadership,” says Elsebeth Terkelsen, former CEO of EGC. “This acquisition represents a crucial step toward securing more resources, collaboration opportunities, and global reach for our efforts.”

Integration of Teams and Resources

EGC’s six employees will join BLOXHUB’s team, which now totals 38 professionals. EGC will continue as a subsidiary of BLOXHUB and maintain its role as the secretariat for the Forum for Sustainable Cities and Buildings (FBBB). Additionally, BLOXHUB’s CEO will take a seat on the FBBB board to strengthen ties between the organizations.
