On Monday, September 29, we were proud to welcome a full house at BLOXHUB for The Future of European Cities – How Urban Transformation and Regeneration Can Unlock Europe’s Housing Supply, co-hosted with Arup, C40 Cities, Urban Partners, and Ramboll.
The morning opened with Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, Danish Minister for Social Affairs and Housing, who shared how Copenhagen’s transformation into one of the world’s most livable cities has been driven by urban regeneration projects that create vibrant, resilient neighbourhoods. Mark Watts, Executive Director of C40, highlighted why European cities should look to regeneration as a strategy to deliver new homes, accelerate climate action, and strengthen affordability.
This was followed by a panel discussion featuring Helene Chartier (C40), Lars Jensen (City Architect of Copenhagen), Karin Wanngård (Mayor of Stockholm), Tobia Zevi (Deputy Mayor of Rome), Signe Kongebro (Ramboll), and Jesse Shapins (Urban Partners). Together, they explored how cross-border collaboration on urban transformation is key to ensuring Europe’s future competitiveness.
With freshly printed copies of The Copenhagen Way in hand, participants left with one clear takeaway: change is possible—within a single generation. The Copenhagen Way is not a blueprint to replicate, but an inspiration and foundation for pathways that cities everywhere can adapt.
A big thank you to all speakers and participants for bringing such energy and expertise to the conversation.
