A heartfelt THANK YOU to the nearly 700 individual A heartfelt THANK YOU to the nearly 700 individuals from various corners of the globe who devoted their valuable time during the #uia23cph to join us for the BLOX's Tour De Chambre –open house event. Nothing excites us more than engaging with like-minded souls who are as committed as we are to positively impact the world through architecture and design. This was no ordinary tour; instead, it offered an immersive experience that guided visitors throughout the entire BLOX building, acquainting them with diverse facets of design, architecture, urban planning, and innovation. The tour’s culmination brought participants to the DAC cocktail lab, specially crafted for this occasion, providing them with a delightful opportunity to network and engage in meaningful conversations with like-minded individuals. Preceding this, all visitors had the chance to delve into the essence of BLOXHUB, interact with our vibrant community, and immerse themselves in captivating exhibitions showcasing the innovative concepts and solutions developed by our esteemed company members. Thank you for the collaboration @danisharchitecturecenter @danishdesigncenter and @creative.denmark. We loved every part of it 💚
Is UGLY the new BEAUTIFUL? Are you ready for a new Is UGLY the new BEAUTIFUL? Are you ready for a new set of esthetics values? And how do we make it desirable to change? Are we willing to start asking the question: Is this beautiful? For whom? Maybe not just for humans? The auditorium at the @uia2023cph was filled as the audience listened to a lively panel sharing their insights on the topic ’Sustainable Transformations of Architecture: How Do We Embrace the Beauty of Ugly? To kick off the session, Ciarán Cuffe, a member of the European Parliament, delivered a short presentation on the New European Bauhaus. This was followed by insights from our CEO Torben Klitgaard, who delivered the vision for DESIRE: an Irresistible Circular Society - a project aiming to create aesthetically pleasing livable communities, climate-resilient European cities that can foster the flourishing of people and nature by 2030. Thank you to a brilliant panel for a great debate: @enlaihooi Hooi, Head of Innovation hos SHL - Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, Madeleine Kate McGowan, speculative designer, artist og artistic leader of NXT BRAND, @indy_johar, architect and partner in Dark Matter Labs og ARCHITECTURE 00, and @louisekielgast Kielgast, anthropologist and Director at @gehl_citiesforpeople - Making Cities for People. We would also like to thank Danish Architecture Center & DDC - Danish Design Centre for orchestrating a thought-provoking debate.
The UIA is FINALLY here, and we are happy to intro The UIA is FINALLY here, and we are happy to introduce XAN BROWNE, the architect who designed & built Wood ReFramed, BLOXHUB’s pavilion at the UIA, from old timber and discarded materials 🪵 Upon entering Hall E of The World's Congress of Architecture (the UIA), you immediately see the wooden structure #WoodReFramed. The pavilion boasts a lightweight construction and features a seating area designed as a giant swing. Xan Browne is on a mission to revolutionize our perception of discarded materials; only local timber is used. The reclaimed treasures each carry their own unique history. Some come from old floorboards sourced from a 150-year-old warehouse in Copenhagen's historic South Harbour. Other pieces are repurposed elements from a 200-year-old building near Amalienborg, the ancient floorboards retrieved from an a150-year-old warehouse in Copenhagen's South Harbour, as well as glulam salvaged from a decommissioned factory, and plywood procured from construction sites. Xan Browne hopes the project will pave the way for the industry to start using reclaimed waste wood in larger load-bearing structures. The pavilion and our #scienceforum will host daily talks throughout the UIA.
