Which role can cities play in delivering a green and just recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic? And what will it take to create green jobs, invest in public services and give public spaces back to people and nature?
Join us for this first online debate in a series of four by C40 and BLOXHUB where we will discuss the role and possibilities of mayors in international climate politics, in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and in ensuring a green and just recovery from the crisis.
The first event will feature an engaging panel with Nina Hachigian, Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles for International Affairs, Tomas Anker Christensen, Danish Climate Ambassador, Hastings Chikoko, C40 Regional Director for Africa, and Martin Marcussen, Professor of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, offering perspectives on the role of mayors in international climate politics as well as the leadership of cities in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring a green and just recovery from the crisis.
Former Mayor of Toronto and current C40 Director of International Diplomacy David Miller will set the stage for the panel by demonstrating how cities are making a real difference in reducing GHG emissions and safeguarding people from the effects of climate breakdown all over the world, informed by his new book Solved: How the World’s Great Cities Are Fixing the Climate Crisis.
